c. smith, m. klemperer, s. lasch, m. menaker . . . only one copy on reserve, but there are 200 people in the class! . . . for a thrill- ing aesthetic experience sit in the browsing room at 12 noon and listen to the clock . . . introduction to contemptible civilization and shepherd ' s hysterical atlas . . . each room has its own personality — reference room, the fluorescent beehive and freshman study hall — periodical room, is lite here yet and honors students surrounded by tons of books — stacks, noisy book truck, poor light, whis- pered giggles — yet it ' s always full — brows- ing room, people sleeping, newspapers all over, and bong, bong, bong, bong, bong — friends ' library, sometimes the quietest hush; other times the rattling radiator and the whirring microfilm drive you mad, mad, mad . . . speaking of mad, it ' s on general re- serve . . . creative writing group in the men ' s room — if you guys want to write stuff like this why don ' t you go to Cornell where they print it in the literary magazine . . . seniors coining down after graduation — it ' s always been my ambition to shout in the reference room — then they look around and don ' t do it.
