Never before had we seen so many new faces all in one small place. We didn't know whether to cry or to smile but later decided the smile was preferred. It wasn't so bad having Mrs. Starling as our teacher. She was rather strick but soon we learned to count to a hundred, read and write. We were really intelligent then, for we were ready for the second grade. Only nine have remained to finish this voyage together. They are: Sybil Dennis, Deloris Bell, Margaret Nelson, Jack Provost, Margaret Riggs, Janice Mason, Billy Underseth, Flo Gearhart, and Russell Riggs. This second year Mrs. Maude Ervin was our teacher. ln addition to reading, writing, and arith- meticg spelling was added. We were really master minds. We looked forward to our third year with Mrs. Thelma Mason as our teacher. She tried to teach us English but finally decided she'd let us try out the fourth grade. Mrs. Gladys Capps was our teacher. Later on in the year she changed her name to Mrs. Gladys Hatsell, It was in her room that we had geography, a much dreaded subject. Finally, we reached the fifth grade despite all of our hardships. Mrs. Mary Weeks found us to be Wholy terrors. Our meaness by that tune was fully developed and we'll never forget her reid, although, we never flinched. We had history this year, another hard subject. In the sixth grade Mrs. Essie Smith taught us. Our mischievous ways still followed. Between jokes and pranks we studied. We'll never forget Mrs. Emma Corbett in the seventh grade because she was so easy on us. School by then was a regular routine of jokes and pranks with David Ward as our leader. Then came our eighth grade. Mr. Farnell was our teacher. We really know who was boss then and we were made to know what the word study meant! His reid we'll also be a memorible object. That year we began to think about the opposite sex and to study our history a little closer. At the end of the year we were presented our certificates from the grammar grades, and graduated into high school with pride. As we moved along through our grammar grades, we gained Pat Holt, Bernice New, Jannery Riggs, Jean Nunnery, Joan Mobley, David Ward, Cleo Watson, Louis Russell, Alton Morton, Earl Taylor, Archie Page, and Thelma Strain. In 1949 we entered high school. We found it to be quite different. We spent most of our time, at first, in the halls asking where am I suspose to go next? We had five teachers instead of one to please and very soon we settled down to work. A few of us went out for sports this year which was a wonderful experience. Our class officers were: President, Betty Hatton, Vice-President, Janice Masonp Secretary and Treasurer, Sybil Dennis. Thelma Strain won the D. A. R. speaking contest and again a new student was added, Shirley Jones. This year American Education Day was observed with Pat Holt, Sybil Dennis, Janice Mason, Jack Provost, Archie Page, and Earl Taylor had the honor of teaching for a day. This was wonderful but we were taught the trial and tribulations of a teacher. Then our sophomore year at last, Mrs. Tyndall was our tenth grade homeroom teacher. Our class officers were: President, Cleo Watsong Vice-President, Bernice New: Secretary, Sybil Dennis: Treasurer, Pat Holt. Jack Provost, Archie Page, Earl Taylor, Louis Russell, Russell Riggs, repre- sented the class in football, baseball, and basketball. Jean Nunnery, Jannery Riggs, Sybil Dennis, Bernice New, Flo Gearhart, Pat Holt, Cleo Watson, Thelma Strain, and Deloris Bell represented the class in basketball. Lois Merrill joined us this year, We will never forget our class picnic at Minni- sott Beach. Our Junior year we had much to look forward to. Mrs. Warf was our home room teacher. Our class officers were selected as follows: Louis Russell, Presidentg Flo Gearhart, Vice-President, Sybil Dennis, Secretary. Janice Mason, Treasurer. We solr' magazine subscriptions to add money to our class funds. We order our class rings and received them in March. We presented our class play The Bargain Bride in December. We will never forget Daisy . At last the night of the Junior- Senior Banquet arrived. We gave the banquet at the Blue Ribbon Club. The marshalls for graduation were Janice Mason, Chief, Jean Nunnery, Pat Holt, Sybil Dennis, and Jack Provost. Janice Mason and Sybil Dennis also represented us May Day . At last our Senior year. We still had much work to do. We sold candy at the beginning of the year and sponsored the Sadie Hawkin's Dance. Jean Nunnery was our President, Pat Holt, Vice- Presidentg Cleo Watson, SecretarygJanice Mason, Treasurer. Lewis Ryan and Delores Gardner joined us this year. Our own Deloris Bell decided to change her name and to none other than Mrs. Clifton Humphrey. Our class has also been the first class to graduate with five outstanding members on the Basketball Team. They are Bernice New, Jean Nunnery, Sybil Dennis, Jannery Riggs, and Flo Gera- hart. We all looked forward to the Junior -Senior Banquet and our trip to Washington. Graduation was a happy day for we knew that we had twelve long years behind us. We, the class of 1953, left a trophy case with the hopes that our class would long be remembered.
