UBS HISTORY DO YOU REMEMBER.... 1949 When we were Freshmen-Miss Wrenn, Mrs. Brown-the race for lockers-all those admits-that sixth period study hall-Civics class -Cecil Whiteside-May Day- football basketball senior girls dating freshmen boys-F. H. A. parties -the class picnic at Royal Pines- Captain Smith-the football banquet -all the classes we skipped-and the things they said about us ?-How can we forget-But then it was- 1950 And we were Sophomores at last -and so we played more football- and basketball and skipped more classes -and had new teachers Mr. Walden, Mr. Medlin, Mrs. Rowell-We joined the F. H. A.-and the F. F. A.- and the Beta Club-and danced on the square dance team-and went to parties in the Buckner Building- And then we met the Black Mountain boys-and started our own Good Neighbor Policy-We rang wedding bells for Carolyn, Evelyn and Mary Grace-and ignored other bells for English and Algebra and World History -and collected bugs and mushrooms for Miss White-and looked forward to- 1951 When we were Juniors-and really ran things !-Mrs. Rowell and Mrs. Wade sponsored us-but not everything we did!-We defeated the seniors and Zelda was Football Queen -and then we repented, and gave them a banquet at the Battery Park -And still we played football- and basketball-and won a game in the Tournament-and beat Black Mountain in softball-and played baseball-and belonged to all the clubs-We danced on the square- dance team again-and won se cond - place in the Folk Festival-and went to Spruce Pine-and W. C. T. C.- We went on basketball trips in the rain and snow-and always came back by the Tunnel Grill-and Miss Wrenn and Miss White gave the teams a party There were dances-and parties and hayrides and every¬ thing we did was fun-But all too soon it was- 1952 And WE were the Seniors- determined to do everything one last time-Mr. Medlin took us over- and we studied Beowulf-and Bill was Halloween King-and Thelma was Football Queen-we played foot¬ ball in Memorial Stadium and got together at bonfires-We worked on the Swan and the Cygnet -and worked in the S Club store at study hall-Mrs. Rowell left us to marry a Man!-We went tcTparties on Christmas and New Years Eve-and then it was time for basketball again Eight girls and four boys from our class made the teams-and we didn ' t win many, but we had fun try¬ ing When tournament time came along we played Sand Hill and West Buncombe-and then, no more basket¬ ball, for us, ever-But there were other things to do-One day the girls all went to Mr. Shope ' s auction, and almost bought a cow for two dollars and later we went to Raleigh for the Beta and F. H. A. conventions- What day were nearly all the girls sick at the same time?-Wasn ' t that the time they were given twelve hours in detention hall?-And the next night they sang The Lord ' s Prayer at P. T. A. !-It wasn ' t long after that until the days just started flying by-and we were busy trying to give the Senior Play and practice graduation and get a date for the ban¬ quet, all at the same time-Suddenly, it was spring!-School was almost just a memory, and class picnic time va.s here again-And so we graduated , and some of us cried and others laugh¬ ed, but we all agreed on one thing- high School was fun-Good-bye every¬ one !
