Nights that we thought forgot, Days that we thought were done, Whether we will or not, Still come back to one. Ideas that we thought were dead, Dried in an empty cup, Thoughts that we thought were fled, Memory gathers up; Roses we throw away, Thinking them faded then, Memory knows some day We shall desire again. Moments that could not last, Friends who have had to part; Things that we thought had passed Out of the mind and heart, Suddenly we recall, Suddenly turn and look— And we shall find them all Kept in memory ' s book. Author Unknown 49 50 The school year of 1965-66 is nearing its end. As the day of our gradua¬ tion fast approaches, we look back at events of the past few years at Swain County High School. It all began when we entered high school as green Freshmen four years ago. Since high school was very strange to us, we had to make many adjust¬ ments. But we caught on quickly by taking first place for our float in the Home¬ coming Parade. We finished our first year at Swain High with the Freshman- Eighth Grade party. We moved into our Sophomore year in frantic search of plants and flowers for Mr. Frizzell ' s Biology projects. There was also the joyful knowledge that we had at last ceased to be on the bottom! On entering our Junior year, we were amazed to discover that we had finally become upperclassmen. With Coach Wright ' s assistance, we suffered through our biggest worry, U.S. History and also came out with first place in the Field Day events. After long hours of planning and decorating, we enter¬ tained the Seniors at the annual prom with the theme A Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Certainly, the anticipation of the future does not replace the memories of the past. This year holds its share of memories, also. The sales talk to sell the magazines, the arrival of class rings, the variety show, the Junior-Senior prom, and, finaUy, the Washington trip combined to make our last year at Swain High a memorable one.
