Twelve years ago some 200 frightened children, all over the county, entered the first grade. It was a long, hard struggle to the eighth grade, but we were always looking forward to graduation and high school. Finally the great day came and we were Green Freshmen. We shall never forget Mr. DeHart ' s Famous Words , and all the planning and work that went into the Freshman-Eighth Grade Party. It wasn ' t long until we were Sophomores and thoroughly familiar with the wilds of Swain High. Frogs and flowers with plenty of exercise was the order of business for that year. Another year had passed, and now we were dignified Juniors ' , faced with the problems of money andthe Junior-Senior Prom. We chose the theme Gay Paree” and it couldn ' t have been any gayer. The long-awaited day finally came, and we became sophisticated Sen¬ iors. And even with the contribution to our homecoming float of our wound¬ ed hero, we took the same old second place. We chose the motto From Possibility to Realization and the Morning Glory as our flower. Still, there were our rings, Washington trip, and the Junior-Senior Prom to look forward to. This is not the end, only the beginning. There will be college for some, jobs for some, and of course, the M.R.S. degree. Whatever our future, we have the best possible chance, for we are graduates of Swain County High School. Class Historians Janice McWhirter and Brenda Stillwell 29
