The Suzies '85 season should be remembered as the girls first time going to the districts. This especially strong season edeed with a 1h-3-2 record. The team's most valuable asset proved to be their offense, led by Gail Russell with 19 goals. Tremendous help was furnished by senior captains Cathy Stevenson and Carrie Murray. The high point of the season for the Suzies was beating rival Millbury for the 3rd time in the district game, during which there was a double overtime and sudden death. The score was 2-1. The 1985 Sutton Cross-Country Team ended a season of experience with a 6-win 8-loss record. A 1h:h2 record was set for Sutton's 2.7mile course by junior Mike Piercey during the second race against Bromfield. This record eclipsed the previous one of 1M:5b set by Steven Davis. The best race for the team as a whole was the second race against Bromfield, at home. Although Sutton lost this race, all teammates set persaonal best times. All in all, '85 was a year of experience for the young team. Hopefully, '86 will be a peak season for Sutton Cross-Country! The Sammie J.V. team had a super season with a 10-O record in conference play. The only 2 losses were to f1 Wachusett--the hardest games of the season. The team played very well together. High scorer for '85 was Dan Loach. Goalie Shawn Courtney deserved recognition and attention because he posted many shutouts. '85 should also be remembered as the season in which the J.V. went undefeated in the Dual Valley Conference. Despite being ousted in the District E semi- finals, the 1985 soccer team was very successful. The team was louded with talent, including ten seniors and eight returning. The season began in Millbury on September 17. The game was thrilling with non-stop,up-and-down E? action. The Sutton fans were not disappointed as the Sammies came away with a 2-1 victory. Few league games stood out, as the Dual Valley Conference was somewhat weaker than in past years. But, the Douglas team, which had plagued this group for the previous two years, again frustrated the Sammies. They defeated Sutton once at home and played them 1-1 in Douglas. And then there were the Bromfield Trojans. Twice during the season, the powerful Trojans de- feated Sutton. The most memorable, and maybe the most exciting game in the history of the rivalry, to kiplace on Octobfig ,I+ in Harvard. In the soak- ing rain and cold te peratures, Bromfield scored three times in the second half to steal the Sammies 2-O lead and walk off with a 3-2.

I was impressed by the discipline and artifacts of the country.H nChinatown was fun! I liked the food. But, possibly worse then the defeat itself, Sutton lost victory, it's star goalie, David Carter, to an injury which occured late on the first half. The strong Sutton club was unchallenged throughout the remainder of the season and en- tered the District E tournament with an impress- sive 11-3-1 record. In the opening round, the Sammies faced the Woolies of Millbury, who had vastly improve since the season opener. During the game, the Sammies scored twice early. They then played strong defensively and held on to win,2-O, advancing them into the semifinals. For the third time, they fell short. On the Omni-turf of WPI's alumni field, in the harshest of weather conditions, the Sutton team fought hard to come within 3-2 of the Trojans, after being down 3-O. But, with only seconds left, the Trojans scored, The season was over. i But the consistent coaching of Mr. Ellis, T backed with a young and talented returning group next year, should provide many thrills to come.
