Class History The history of the Class of 1961 with its hours of happiness and hours of anxiety will forever linger in our minds. There will always be memories of September, 1957 which marked the beginning of a four year journey that was to take us into the realms of higher education and provide us with several new experiences. In October we Initiation which was were formally welcomed into high school at the Freshman sponsored by the Sophomore Class. Class elections our class advisor President, Marilyn Eaton, Treasurer, Representatives. were held in December under the leadership of Mr. Douville, The following officers were elected: Barbara Popham, Clemmey, Vice-President, Nora Benson, Secretaryg Lois and Merrilee Weaver and Nora Benson, Student Council The huge success of the Sophomore Return Party held in May, 1958, our only project for the year, proved to be a good start for our Washington fund. Time passed quickly and we soon found our first year had come to a close. The next fall we returned to Sutton High ready and eager to continue our journey. We were no longer the timid freshmen of the year past. We met with Mr. Douville and Mr. Murdock, our class advisors, to elect the following class officers, Barbara Popham, President, Bruce Hunton, Vice- President, Nora Benson, Seeretaryg Lois Eaton, Treasurerg and Pat Fisher and Steve Vokes, Student Council Representatives. With much delight our class presented the Freshman Initiation, for now we too were considered upperclassmen. Being more certain of itself the Class of 1961 prospered both socially and financially. Many members of the class took an active part in sports and extracurricular activities. We selected our class rings from the Josten Ring Co. in March and began the long wait for the coming fall when we would receive them. In a few short months the second step of our journey had come to an end. At the coming of fall we returned anxious to see what the junior year held in store for us.
