Even with United States history the class continued to take an active part in all clubs and athletics. At graduation exercises the new members of the National Honor Society were announced. They were Ruth Dukes, Emmet Grandone, Arleen Morro, and Alna Werme. After keen competition in the field of history, Benjamin Landry was finally defeated by his arch rival, Arleen Morro, in the battle for the D. A. R. History award. Because of the disorganization of class activities, fund raising for the trip was not too successful and it became apparent at the beginning of the senior year in 1957, that if the class did not organize its activities, they would have to hitch their wagon to a star or take a trip to Hartford, Connecticut. After careful consideration the new senior class, with few dissenting votes, elected President Emmet Grandone, through his four years in high school an honor studentlwith an industrious and resolute character. Throughout the senior year he was to show his steadfastness and abilities of leadership. Other officers chosen by their classmates were: Harold Bentley, Vice-PresidentgArleen Morro, Secretarypl-Xlna Werme , Treasurer, and Mary Ann Konopka and Ianet Ledoux, Student Council representatives. Miss Konopka was later elected president of the Student Council and Miss Ledoux, Treasurer. The main concern of all seniors was raising the necessary funds for the trip to Washington. Shy seniors turned into aggressive salesmen as they convinced their parents, relatives, and anyone else they happened to meet of the necessity of Christmas cards and stationery, the excellence of the Senior Chicken Supper, the talent of the Dramatic Club, etc. The Asian flu and temporary recession in the country curtailed the success the seniors deserved for the work they put into those affairs. Several regular dances and a special Senior Carnival Dance netted approximately 5400. In January, Harold Bentley, on the strength of an essay written on the minimum voting age, was selected as Student Good Government representative. Alna Werme was chosen by her classmates and the faculty as D. A. R. representative of 1958. After a stirring and highly argumentative class meeting it was decided to hold the Valentine Ball, at which Francine Bilodeau was chosen queen. And finally graduation! ! !

Historyln The Making On September 8, 1954, a new class of students entered Sutton Memorial High School in Sutton, Massachusetts. They were no different than the hundreds of other students who have matured through and prospered from participation in clas swork and extracurricular activities, but like every class before and after them, they believe theirs to be the best. Therefore, they have requested that the history of such an outstanding class be recorded and preserved as an example to future generations. ln the election of 1954, John Annis was voted by a popular majority to be pres- ident. The other officers were: Hugh Falvey, Vice-President, Alna Werme, Secretary, Arleen Morro, Treasurer, and Student Council representatives, Robert and Ruth Dukes. Socially, the class of 1958 prospered. The Sophomore Return Party triggered the host of fund-raising activities to finance that dream of every freshman class, the senior class trip. For the most part, the class took part in extracurricular activities with enthusiasm. The Sophomore year showed a great improvement in the class as a whole. In athletics , many of the Iunior Varsity squad graduated to Varsity, and the Glee Club began to show signs of promise. The elections of '55 were a mere formality, the same officers being chosen. Iohn Annis was re-elected, although he was later replaced by Vice-President, Wayne Vayo. The other officers elected were: Arleen Morro, Secretary: Alna Werme, Treasurer: and Robert and Ruth Dukes, Student Council representatives. The Freshman Initiation netted a tidy sum for the Wagon to Washington. The presentation was novel, a judge and jury imposing penalties on the guilty freshmen . The Sophomore Carnival and Dance, although held in previous years, showed imagina- tion through the addition of a horror house and ping-pong game. When the class of '58 reconvened in September, 1956, they proceeded to elect the following class officers: Wayne Vayo, President: Robert Dukes, Vice-President 5 Mary Lou Purdy, Secretary, Alna Werme, Treasurer, and Mary Ann Konopka and Kenneth Linder, Student Council representatives.
