We were fortunate to have as our advisor Mrs. Maris. It was easily seen that John Cobiski, with his noticeable abilities of leadership, would be chosen President, as he later was when we held our elections. Other members of our class were elected to the following offices: Vice-President, Ronnie Annisp Sec- retary, Muriel Shenkerp Treasurer, Jackie Turnerg Student Council, Marcia Putnam and David Lavallee. As we had anticipated, our Freshman Initiation proved to be most enjoyable. Our class members were enthusiastic about participating in all functions. Now came the long awaited day that was to start us off on our money-making pro- ject for our Washington trip: The Sophomore Return Party. It proved to be a success with the members of our class making up the entertainment which was truthfully amatur- ish, but entertaining. The following year we were again in the auditorium awaiting the announcement of our classes. This year we weren't as excited as last year. Once again we elected the following officers: President, John Godboutg Vice-Presi- dent, Ronnie Annis: Secretary, Connie Windleg Treasurer, Helene Jarvais: Student Coun- cil, Marcia Putnam and Samuel Hutchings. Our first event was an opportunity to initiate the Frosh. As in our Freshman year we continued to be active in clubs and sports. At the 250 Anniversary of the town of Sutton, we operated a booth which helped our treasury and provided us with a wonderful time. CAnyone for milk or Greenspot ?j In the Spring we presented a dance with a chiche novelty-live chickens! ! ! ! The next year we assembled at Sutton High, holding the title of Juniors. Our ad- visor this year was Mr. Murdock. We soon elected the following officers to guide our class: President, John Godboutg Vice-President, Skip O'Shea: Secretary, Connie Windle, Treasurer, Helene Jarvaisp Stu- dent Council, Ethel Helgesen and Samuel Hutchings. As in previous years we joined school functions and, it might be added, that we did very well in them. After the basketball season we sponsored a new added attraction: we were the first class to produce a Junior Play. We were aided in our presentation of the play by Miss Dorothy Austin of the faculty. We were all very pleased with ourselves as we made almost two hundred dollars on this affair. Six members of our class were elected to the National Honor Society. They were: Ethel Helgesen, Marcia Putnam, Richard O'Shea, Helen Swart, Kathy Roy, and Connie Windle. At Graduation Richard O'Shea was awarded the D.A.R. History Award. The next year we arrived at school with the superior feelings of Seniors. Our mem- bership was now 33. With Doc as our class advisor we quickly elected our class officers: President, john Godboutg Vice-President, Skip O'Shea: Secretary, Connie Windlep Treasurer, Helene Iarvaisg Student Council, Ethel Helgesen and Bradley Eaton. As usual, we got right into the swing of things and were active in all the school functions . Our Senior Supper proved to be one of the best suppers ever sponsored by a Senior class. Next we converted into door to door salesmen when we sold Christmas cards which also was a success. Early in December we presented our Senior Play which was: Too Young Too Old . The play was well presented under the supervision of Mr. John Warner. In December Ethel Helgesen was chosen as the Good Government Day Representative. Marcia Putnam was chosen as the D.A.R. Representative in February. February 9 we presented the Valentine Ball. Ethel Helgesen was chosen as Queen with Marcia Putnam as one of the attendants. We now have put down our impression about Sutton Memorial High and hope that our class will long be remembered. Z 1 f-S f 5 6 if-fi 4-:Q PRESIDENT John Godbout VICE-PRESIDENT Richard O'Shea SECRETARY Connie Windle TREASURER Helene Iarvais CLASS MOTTO Today Decides Tomorrow CLASS COLORS Maroon and 'White CLASS FLOWERS 'White Roses Class Prophecy There I was covering KATHY'S debut, my first important assignment. This was really more than just a job for me because she was a former classmate of mine. As I came to my seat in the balcony, I looked and saw VIRGINIA CORRIVEAU who was now an out- standing figure in the fashion world. As the recital was in progress I heard whispering behind me. It reminded me of WALTER MCGOVERN and BEVERLY CARLSON, and much to my surprise it was. Bev was in an airline hostess uniform and was taking in a show with Walter who had by accident been traveling on the plane that she was hostessing on. Walter was taking this trip to check on his uranium mines in Colorado. Glancing toward the back of the hall I saw three dashing young men in uniform. Be- tween Bev, Walter and myself we distinguished them as being BERNARD ZUIDEMA and SPENCER BARNETT in the naval uniforms and WALDO EORSYTHE in the Air Force uniform. We could not, however, get their attention. After the recital I went backstage and I was amazed that Kathy remembered me, VIRGINIA HIGGINS, the quiet girl in my class. She invited me to attend a party she was having at her home. As I arrived at the party, I met CONNIE WINDLE who greeted me warmly. Connie I found to be a head doctor at a nearby hospital. PAUL PEARSON suddenly approached me and snapped my picture. He had followed in his father's foot- steps and was now a well-known photographer at many socials. IAY TURNER and PENNIE PUTNAM were sitting together chatting about their children. In their spare time they have been making trips to various places and are now planning one to Bermuda. Oh no! In came DAVE LAVALLEE carrying a uke and attempting to sing. He certainly looks nice, though, in his Marine uniform. BRADLEY EATON walked over to the TV and turned it on to drown out Dave. Incidently Brad is now the owner of a very successful Dairy Farm in New Jersey. All of a sudden jay exclaimed, Doesn't that TV announcer remind you of CHARLES HUTCHINGS ? Why yes it does, said Dave, let's call up and find out. Meanwhile in California MARCLA PUTNAM was giving a party for some of her friends. Among these friends were some of her classmates who also had gone to California be- cause of their jobs. Marcia is talking with IOYCE HUNT and ETHEL HELGESEN. Ethel, do you like your position of teaching physical education a UCLA? asked Marcia. lt's been fun, but this will be my last year for Joyce and I are planning a world trip. That's right, answered Joyce, I'll be leaving my private secretarial job to go with her. How's your teaching position coming along, Marcia? Oh just fine. Re plied Marcia. There's the doorbell, I'll answer it. SKIP O'SHEA came in saying he would have to leave early for he had a lot of work that had to be done in his experimental laboratory the next morning. Also, one of his associate workers SAM HUTCHINGS was not able to attend because of illness. CAROL MOORE phones she will be a little late because she has to finish up some papers on a survey she is making for a Lwygiengt, A car came screeching. In came EMIL MONGEON and RAY RZEWUSKI who were in high spirits. Well we've finally joined our public accountant offices together, Emil declared. That's wonderful, all their friends said. Carol, I just got a letter from HELEN JARVAIS the other day and she and her hus- band have just moved to Chicago because of her husband's work. Emil announces. Speaking of letters I received one from HELEN SWART. Imagine that she, JANE PITULA, and THERESA RICHARD are all working as secretaries in the same place in Philadelphia. She also said that TRACY HORNE and JOHN GODBOUT have become im- portant businessmen in Boston and were both happy bachelors. The TV was in need of repairs so Joyce called a repairman. When the repairman got there Joyce exclaimed, Are you GERARD SENECAL, the repairman ? Isn't this a small world. Gerard begins to tell Joyce of a few other classmates. 'I Did you know that EVERETT TOWI.E and DAVID GARCELON are working at the General Electric Plant near here ? There, the television is fixed ? Isn't that BETTY COYETTE doing that commercial? Yes, it is and that's CHARLES HUTCHINGS announcing. Let's call them up. I'll do it, said Marcia. Hello, may I speak to Charles Hutchings or Betty Goyette '? Thank you. Hi Betty! After Marcia had finished talking she hung up saying, All our classmates from New York and out that way also called the station. Now we're going to call Mr. Schwab and see if we can arrange a date for a reunion. Isn't that wonderful! So we leave the class of 1957 busily making preparation for a reunion. Doc's Quotes Read not to believe or contradict but to weigh and consider. I wholly disapprove of what you say, yet I would fight to the death for you to say it. He who liveth unto himself is of all men most miserable. You obtain true happiness by serving others without thought of reward. Where one alternated work, study and play in the right proportion the brain is the last organ of the body to fail. Death for such has no terror. Love of flag and a readiness to defend that for which it stands from every subversive influence from without or within, I believe is Arnericanism. I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man! Eternal vigilence is the price of liberty. AND THEN YOU WONDER WHY Titian . . H elpful . . A Farewell Message To the Class of 1957 Greetings in the name of American and Educational enlightenment. Your four years in high school have past, all too quickly, into the real of history. As you reflect upon these years of enjoyment intermingled with periods of depression, I am confident that you have learned one great lesson of life -- One must take the bitter with the sweet. Life, at its best, is not a bed of roses. This is as it should be. With- out contrasts there would be no real appreciation of worthwhile things. It is this contrast between ability and lack of ability, between the ugly and the beautiful, between the good and the bad, between the Saint and the Sinner that gives variety -- hence a sense of value to each individual. As you go out into life's great drama of activity -- endowed with the weapons of Faith in God, Truth and Courage may each task undertaken add another star to your diadem of success. The Class of 1957 has been the twentieth to graduate from Sutton High School since I have been here. In truth, it has been FIRST in all undertakings in the raising of money and in doing other good works for the school. Because of this outstanding fact, I sincerely thank you for making it a most successful class. May each of you ever keep in mind those truths of Equality, Fraternity and Freedom which have made this nation a force for good throughout the world. May the United States ever be a beacon light to all who seek true freedom under God. No matter what my birth may be No matter where my lot is cast I am the heir in equity Of all the present past. h The arts, the sciences, the law Of all ages long since dust. The wisdom of the world in store All mine! All mine! To hold in trust. D. G. Schwab X 7 -ae-f',,,, V X. Vfkrlsxw ff, 5 ' ' MOGSKIAN CONSTRUCTION CO.
