Class History In September, 1951, a group of fifty-one bewildered Freshmen ascended the stairs to the top floor of the high school. We were beguiled by the mature and learned upperclass- men. We learned that our class was to be housed in two different rooms--half in Room 207 with Mr. Place and the rest in Room 209 with Mr. Smith. We lost no time in getting re-acquainted and proceeded to elect the following class officers: Michael Roussel, presidentg Chester Szewerenka, vice-presidentg Irene Zona, secretaryg and Alyse Hoover, treasurer. Within a few weeks Irene moved from Sutton and we elected Sylvia Watson to take her place. We also chose Sidney Frieswick as A. A. treasurer. Blue and gold were selected as our class colors. During the first week of October we officially joined the high school when at the hands of the Sophomores we were initiated. Soon after the first marking period Mr. Place left to accept a position in Auburn. Mr. LeBlanc was selected to take his place. Members of the class participated in the glee club and basketball. In March, under the direction of Mr. Smith and Mr. LeBlanc, we sponsored the Sophomore Return Party. We ended our Freshman year with forty-four members and Mr. Smith and Mr. Yoffee, who had replaced Mr. LeBlanc, as our class advisors. We re-assembled for our Sophomore year in Room 2.05 with Mr. Schwab as class advisor. The class had dropped to a membership of forty-one. Our class officers this year were: Sidney Frieswick, presidentg Chester Szewerenka, vice-presidentg Laura Hutchinson, secretaryg Vesta Helgesen, treasurerg Bill Schotanus, A. A. treasurerg and student council representatives, Charmian Fisher and Chester Szewerenka, and later June Fessenden. Our first social event of the year was the Freshman Initiation. On the first of December Mrs. Maris replaced Miss Beechler. We exchanged home rooms with the Seniors and so Mrs. Maris was our advisor the rest of the school year. We continued to take an active part in the School activities.
