Thanks Mrs. Beatty The 1987 LOG is dedicated to Mrs. Betty Beatty who retired at the close of the 1987 school year. Mrs. Beatty has taught for 44 years; forty of tho e years were at Sutherland. Mrs. Beatty was born in Brock, Nebraska, and raised in Adams, where she graduated from high school at age 16. An avid sports fan, Mrs. Beatty attended every Husker football game in the special Knothole Section while in grades 7 through 12. Somewhat of a tomboy, she constantly dribbled a basketball and usually won all of the races in school. Winning a scholarship, Mrs. Beatty attended College at Kearney State majoring in music and business. She changed to education in her freshman year. Also in that year, her parents moved to Sutherland where she met Marvin Beatty. Completing her Normal School Training, Mrs. Beatty began teaching at age 18. She and Marvin were married in Urbana, Illinois, when Marvin graduated from the Univer- sity of Illinois. She completed her degree by attending summer school over the years at Kearney State. She and Marvin have one son, Ken, and two grandchildren, Kendra and Ryan. At Sutherland, she has taught both elementary and high school, and perhaps is remembered best as junior high and senior high school English teacher. She also was physical education teacher and coach during one period. Two local men helped coach. She sold candy bars in her room during the lunch hour to raise funds to purchase uniforms. A member of the Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star, she also has been an adviser for the Boy Scouts, sponsor of junior high and high school pep clubs, as well as class sponsor. Professionally, Mrs. Beatty is a past president of both the Lincoln County Teachers and the Sutherland Education Association and currently serves on several SEA commit- tees. In appreciation for many years of devoted service to three generations of Sutherland students, this edition of the LOG is dedicated to Mrs. Beatty with best wishes for many happy years of retirement. In Memoriam Bobby moved away from us, and it saddened one and all. For when he moved away from us, he took a part of us all. He paid the Lord a visit and he got along so great, He decided to stay and live with Him behind the pearly gate. We know you are watching over us from Heaven; We will remember you always, the Class of '87.
