“
I PRESENTED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1969 SUTHERLAND HIGH SCHOOL SUTHERLAND, NEBRASKA We the class of ''69” have chosen reflections” for the theme of this year’s annual. Webster tells us that “reflections are images brought back by the fixing of the mind on a subject.’’ Using these pages as a mirror, we hope you too will be able to bring back images of yourself and others involved in the activities and events at S.H.S. Life itself is but a mirror through whichwe evaluate our past, relive memories, and build goals for the future. As seniors, we extend our appreciation to all those who have helped us in creating a wealth of reflections that we may carry with us always as we step into the future. We are proud to present to you this edition of the 1969 “Log.” Editor Assistant Editor DEDICATION To the seniors of 1969, the Loeschers will remain a symbol of the pride and fulfillment we have attained throughout our years at Sutherland High. Through their guidance and interest in us as individuals, they have improved us both academically and socially. Mr. Loescher has inspired new goals and spirit to the field of athletics. Through him we learned that sports are not entirely a game of skill, but a desire from within. He has been a firm and reliable source of knowledge and a principal of distinction. Be it the long and memorable ordeal of prom or the presentation of literature, Mrs. Loescher has gained our admiration and respect. As our class sponsor for the last two years, she has diligently sought to make our endeavors enjoyable as well as profitable. Together, with laughter and persistence, the Loeschers have worked to accomp- lish the necessary and memorable elements vital to the future of young adults. Therefore, as a token of our appreciation and esteem, the class of 69” dedicates this annual to a couple who will always remain a part of us - Mr. and Mrs. Byron Loescher. SENIORS SNEAK TO DENVER Twenty-five seniors and six sponsors traveled by chartered Greyhound Buss to Denver area on the 1969 Senior Sneak trip. After traveling all night, the group ate breakfast in Canon City, Colo, about 6:30. When they reached the Royal Gorge, the seniors rode the world's steepest incline railway (100 percent grade), observed the deep canyons, and the most magnificent scenery. The group then returned to Canon City, where they took an educational tour of the Colorado State Prison. They were able to buy many beautiful crafts from the gift shop. They next visited the zoo at Colorado Springs. Many members of the senior class were particularly interested in the monkey house. They also visited the Air Force Academy outside of Colorado Springs and ate dinner there. At 5:00 the traveling seniors and sponsors checked into the Denver Hilton. Their evening activities included Celebrity Lanes where they could bowl, swim, play pool, play pin-ball, shoot in galleries, or eat, the top of the Rockies, where they got a taste of high living, attended a Cinerama, and ate McDonald's hamburgers. During their trip they also visited the Red Rocks, Look Out Mountain and Stapleton airport. In October, four of its members at- tended the Nebraska Student Council Convention in Norfolk, where many ideas were discussed. The Senate provided concessions for the student body during the school week and allotted con- cession rights to the classes at various basketball games. The council sponsored the annual Happy Holidays Christmas Dance, raised school spirit by putting on skits at pep rallies, sold Sailor notebooks and stationery, and sponsored an annual dinner for the Senior Class. The Council also helped with some school activities wherever help was needed. The main function this year, though, was to publish a school paper, the Senate Page, which provided news and entertainment for the students. These were some of ways in which the student council served the students of S. H.S. LIBRARIANS SITTING, left to right: Terrie Jochum, Christy McVay, Cindy Crosby.
