Joreivoi The students of Sutherland High School in 1914. “The old order changeth” as Nebraska is in its centennial of statehood which was officially celebrated March 1, 1967. Since this is such an important event, the annual staff of Sutherland High School is using, in part, the centennial theme in this year’s Log. Like Janus, the two-faced Roman god, seniors graduating in 1967 can look in two directions at once: back- ward over freshman initiation, the prom, class plays, sneak trip, ambitions filled and unfulfilled, plus some disappointments—and hopefully into the future. Not for them the rigors of following the plow that broke the plains, the threat of Indian raids, the loneli- ness of living in a prairie sodhouse. Nor are they apt to be concerned about grasshopper plagues, claim jumpers, or free silver. Moreover, the young sophisticates will some day laugh at their parents’ frantic antics over mini-skirts, the Beatles, and the Frug in the quaint 1960’s. And maybe, in their unusual, new world they’ll even learn to cope with war, depression, inflation, morals, taxes, and the atom bomb. So onward, class of '67, to Nebraska’s second century! Dedication The Seniors of Sutherland High School in 1967. For more than a half of a century, Sutherland High School has stood as a center of learning in our community. Hundreds of students have graduated from this school to take their place in colleges, vocations, and jobs. The records of achievement which they have left behind; and the measures of success which have come to them, indicate that Sutherland High School was, and is, an institution of learning of which any community might be proud to call its own. We appreciate all who have helped to maintain our school, the guidance given us by every teach- er, the understanding of our parents, and the encouragement and support of this community. To all of these, we, the Senior Class of 1967, respectfully dedicate this annual. May you never regret the trust you have bestowed upon us.
