Innuaf Deoication This page and many more could be filled if we Seniors of 1963 wrote down how Mr. Vernon Thomsen had helped us through the trying years of high school. We weren't the only ones he has helped in his twelve years of teaching at ole S.H.S He is respected and admired by all for many things. Possibly it is his intelligence which he shared with us and all others. If you were stumped on an algebra problem. you just had to ask and he would meet you with an open book, sharp pencil, and a waiting table. He spent many hours of his precious time helping some of the slower students after school. There was something about our Mr. Thomsen. With looks he could make you feel like a million dollars and then again like two cents. It wasn't all sunlight and roses - we worked and we learned. He wasn't the type to expect A’s from all of us, as long as we did our best - that was good enough for him. He was one of the most understanding teachers a student could have. He would listen to our problems and then sincerely try to find a solution for them. One of the nicest compliments he paid us was treating us like adults or as 'young people,' as he called us, which is really what we were trying to be. Many factors combine to make our Mr. Thomsen: his warm smile, his stern hand and brow, his teasing ways, and his understanding manner blend to signify a truly great man in the eyes ofth,e students at Sutherland High School. We, the Senior Class of 1963, proudly dedicate The Log of 1963to our own MR.
