The play was held April 26, 27 and we hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as we did putting it on. The director of the play was Mr. Robert Larson. We wouldn’t have been able to get along without him. Produced by special arrangement with Row, Peterson and Company, Evanston, Illinois, and White Plains, New York. 10 The very studious Shorthand class. Taken at the Christmas party. The great American Problems class. SENIOR CLASS SKIP DAY The Senior class of 1951 had a party on May 3 and then hung our colors of Blue and White. We left Sutherland at three o’clock with our sponsor, Mr. Sjogren and his wife, Mrs. Sjogren on a chartered bus. We headed for wide open spaces, high sky- scrapers, eyes toward the mountains, in other words, Denver. When we arrived in Denver, we visited the museums. We then went out to University of Denver and tour- ed the Campus, went swimming and ice skating, and visited the cafeteria. Friday night we stayed at the Shirley Savoy Hotel and Saturday morning we got up bright and early and continued our tour around Denver. About seven o’clock Saturday evening we headed for the city of Sutherland, a tired and happy group. 11 It's against the law to jay-walk I’ll get my man Sharp-shooter Look at us type Must be interesting She won’t bite Yodeling dudes Tarzan Dumb-founded Hot-shot The things!! 12 Now what’ll we do?? This year Coach Callahan led us to 6 wins, 3 defeats and one tie. In our opening game we sped past Hershey with a 2.3-0 victory. On the first kickoff of the ,-son against the Hershey Panthers, Ken Coker ran for a touchdown with only one defender left standing. In our next game, Big Springs gave us a 47-19 lesson. Big Springs was undefeated throughout the season. We suffered our second straight defeat at the hands of St. Pat’s Irishmen, 25-6. At Paxton we finally came through with a 26-6 win, spaiked by some powerful running by Ron Danielson. At home the next Tuesday the S.H.S. reserves beat the Arthur Longhorns, with a score of 27-6. The peak of the season proved to be our game with Stapleton. Trailing by 13-0 at the half the Sailors came back to tie them 19-19 as the final whistle blew. The Sailors next journeyed to Elm Creek where the Coach cleaned the benches and brought home a 40-0 win. On a none too nice a day we played the Brady Eagles in our last Lincoln County game. Brady charged to a 32-0 victory. The last game of the season we out played Elsie winning by a 46-22 score. This ended the season with a 4th place standing in the LCAA and 3rd place in the S.P.V.A. 22 RUFF AND TUFF KENNY MAIN AND ALBERT HOLM Kenny was our quarterback. Letters won SS. The name of our school newspaper is “The Log.” It is published in the local community paper “The Courier” each week. The sponsor is Mrs. Paul Babbitt. A new column was added to “The Log this year, it is called I)o You Know” written weekly by Professor Strong. This year as a special project a Christmas edition was printed and sold to students at five cents a copy. Our sponsor, Mrs. Babbitt, and the staff worked long hours and produced a good paper. This is the second year we have had a student council in the high school. Two representatives were elected from each class and from this group Joan Ecker was chosen secretary. The student body as a whole elected Arlene Keuter, president. This year, outside of their governing duties, the Student Council helped sponsor the Football Dance and Christmas Party. We feel that the Student Council has helped make our high school better and that it gives the students an opportunity to express their ideas on various matters per- taining to the high school. 43 GRADE FOOTBALL Back row: Mr. Penning.
