Freshman Initiation Thursday, September 29, the Freshies came to school in the cutest costumes. They wore long-legged underwear, striped stockings, short skirts, shirts inside out and backwards and green ribbons around their ankles. Both th eboys and the girls had their hair in pin curls. In the morning they were decorated by the Seniors with lots of liostick and rouge and “Freshie” written across their noses in green. They spent the entire day obeying the Seniors, The next evening they wore these same costumes to the initiation party. They walked the plank, had a mixture of feathers, macaroni, and tomatoes put on their faces and limburger cheese put under their noses. After this was over we had a hilarious Truth or Consequences Program. A lunch of ice cream, cake, and pop was served. Three of our Freshies were so unfortunate as to miss out on this delicious lunch because they were cleaning fly paper off their feet. This was the result of the Truth or Consequences Program. Everyone will now admit, even the Freshmen, that they had a good time but wouldn’t want to go through it again. 14

Senior Class Prophesy Here we are in the year of 1960, ten years after the graduation of a truly fine Senior Class of Sutherland High. Let’s see what the graduates of 1950 are doing now. Mary Lou Orosco has become a very famous star in Hollywood. She has three beautiful mansions at Beverly Hills. Delores DePriest is still being teased by the Senior boys of ’50 about George Crosby, but since they are married it doesn’t matter. Don Rotert always did like to hunt and fish and now that he is game-warden he hunts and fishes the year around. Ruth Leonhardt is a secretary at the Marquette Manufacturing Co. at Sarben, incidentally she married the president, George Marquette. Loren Hilton was President of the F.F.A. and it seems the idea of Presidency went to his head, because he is now President of the United States. Norma Bierma was going to be a teacher, so Deri Scofield gave her a job of teaching their children. On any lazy, summer afternoon, you can still see Jim Godeker loafing around the streets of Sutherland. Lila Cook is still waiting for Bob Fleecs to make his first million so they can get married. Tom Yost was always a good talker so now he is an auctioneer. You can see him standing in the streets of Maxwell auctioning off old buildings. Barbara Kallhoff always wanted to be a singer so she took Kate Smith’s place on NBC. Tom Kennedy is still giving Mary Lou a bad time. It seems he’s been married several times, but Mary Lou is still waiting for him. Lucile Brown finally found her millionaire. If you see a flashy red convertible whiz by, you’ll know it’s her. Ron Warner is still black mailing any one whom he can get some scandalous information of! Audrey Emery took Don Staples away from her sister and now they are living up near Arthur on a dude ranch where he is employed. Jim Freemon now owns a used car lot. By the way you can hear him on JFBS (Jim Freemons Broadcasting Station) singing used car advertisements. Don Fleecs just bought another new Ford. Seems he has wrecked nine of them since he graduated. After teaching for five years Barbara Harshfield finally saved up enough money to get a new car. Now you can see Billy Trego driving it under her supervision. 13

Activities We started out the year with twenty members in our class, with Agnes Vasa entering at the first of the year. Mrs. Paul Babbitt was our class sponsor. We enjoyed having her as our sponsor very much. Class officers were elected as follows: President Chet Binegar Vice-President Don Kugler Secretary-Treasure Phillip Merrill Sag-of-arms Gene Kramer Our class motto is “A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.” Our class colors are wine and gray, and our flower is the white carnation. This was the second year that the Junior class was able to go to County Govern- ment day in North Platte. This was very interesting experience, and we all enjoyed it. We have enjoyed this year very much and look forward to being good Seniors next year. 15
