Jayson Dau Under the fine coaching of Mr. Shields, the Tigers had a great season. They ended up with a 12-9 record. The team peaked toward tne end of the season and did pretty well in the tourna- ments. Their first game was with Sioux Ra- pids-Rembrandt. They were no match for the boys from Sutherland. The Tigers prevailed 56-49. Then they beat up on South Clay 61-45. The Tigers were upended in the District finals by a very good team from Graettinger 59-51. Everyone snould be applauded for a job well done!! 56 JUNIOR VARSITY AND FRESHMAN BOYS Above: Sitting-John Stamer, Tony Lundquist, Dain Hicks, Tom Steele. The girls basketball team had a good season under 1st year head coach Steve Meier. The girls ended up with a 4-15 record. Many of the losses were close ones and the games came right down to the wire. In the first round of the sectionals, the Tigerettes lost a close came to the team from Primghar. lne final score was 87-73. This year's seniors will be missed greatly next year. Their leadership on and off the court will be hard to replace. Carol Grause, Shelley Focelman, and Char Wohlert were tne only sen- iors. There are many underclass- men and younger girls who are go- ing to be counted on next season. If they all work hard to develop them- selves and have a good attitude to- ward the sport, 1987-88 should be a very good year for the Tigerettes. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL AND BASKETBALL Coach Shields. The Sutherland Tigers had an improved season over last year, as they ended the season with a 5-12 record. Things are looking very good for the future as the JV team went 7-5-1. The Tigers ended the season on a rather sour note losing to Willow in the first round of sectional play 10-0. Coach Trost has got some good athletes coming up to work with in the years to come He hopes that all the players will continue to work hard and to improve on their baseball skills. A special thanks goes to John Jackson as he worked with the JV team. 67 TIGERETTE SOFTBALL Row 1: Micheal Dickmeyer, Kristi Laue, Stacy Faust. Cindy Magnussen, Shelley Fogelman. Carol Crause. The JV team had a 11-10 mark. One of the things that hurt the girls from Sutherland was a lack of pitching. The girls have a fine nucleus coming back for next season. Mr. Dickmeyer says that if all the girls continue to work hard and improve, next year should be an outstanding one.
