DUKE DEDICATION TO OUR PARENTS OUR LIVES ARE SHAPED BY THOSE WHO LOVE US. ALTHOUGH OUR PARENTS MAY NOT HAVE SAID IT, THEY HAVE TRIED THEIR BEST TO TEACH US WHAT WE NEEDED TO LIVE BY, AND THAT THEY HAVE TRIED TO SHOW US THE DIFFERENT FACETS OF LIFE. Deadlines must be met or the paper will be incomplete. The other school publication, The Duke, is planned and prepared by some of the other graduating seniors. This is the yearbook staff that organizes the events of the past school year into a book which will pro- vide vivid memories for years to come. Senior Float Junior Float Sophomore Float Queen Mary and King Larry HOMECOMING ROYALTY KING LARRY QUEEN MARY MARK REHDER and JULIE BROWN September 29, 1972, was the date for the annual Homecoming festivities against the Alta Cyclones. The loss of 8-7 was the only event which detracted from the success of the day. The coronation of the King and Queen was held in the High School gymnasium. Feelings of suspense and happiness ran through the crowd as they watched Mary Sickelka and Larry Dau crowned Queen and King by a vote of the High School student body. Following the coronation ceremonies, the cheer- leaders conducted a pep rally. Jerry Becker and Pete Petersen gave their predictions for the outcome of the game. Later that warm, fall afternoon the Home- coming floats were displayed. After the football game, Queen Mary was pre- sented a bouquet of roses by Darryl Triplett, a mem- ber of the Student Council. The Blue Pearls provided the music for students, alumni, and friends of the Sutherland Community High School. DENNIS JOHANNSEN and DEBI WATTERSON JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM On a pleasant Saturday evening in April, the members of the Junior and Senior classes attended a banquet and dance in an old western town. Amid a wild west corral, buggy, and saloon, the class members and their dates enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by mothers of the Junior Class members. The western atmosphere and entertainment provided an interesting evening. “MIDNIGHT ” SPRING PLAY Mary Nancy Carla David Sarah Mary Rhonda Miss Petersen Mark Colleen Tom Mr. Dickmeyer BACHELOR OF THE YEAR Thomas Caldwell. We dropped a close 8-7 game to the Cyclones and Triplett's injury early in the first period was termed by Coach Becker as a crowning blow to the Tigers' offensive punch. Triplett hauled in a 60-yard pass just prior to the shoulder injury, setting up the Tiger's only score of the night. Anxiety swept over the crowd as Aurelia easily scored the first touchdown. A not-to-be-denied Tigers' contingent put a chill on the highly touted Aurelia Bulldogs for an astounding 43-6 upset victory. JR. It is a job that reaps little thanks, but demands great amounts of work. To show its appreciation for the service rendered the school, the yeari ook staff presents each member of the school board with a free copy of THE DUKE. Not only are the administration and the faculty im- portant to a successful school system, but the rest of the school staff is equally important. Without the assistance of the school custodians, secretaries, cooks, and bus drivers, the school would not be able to function. These people should be saluted for the long hours and hard work they give to their jobs.
