SABER TALES 1979 Susquehanna Valley High School Conklin, New York This is just the beginning ot our reminiscing. Stick with us and watch 1979 grow into a memorable year for all Sabers. We Are Picking Up Speed . . . We’ve Come a Long Way. . . Today, everything is quick. Society keeps changing. Nothing is the same anymore. Inflation keeps right on going up and money is getting harder to come by. But the students at S.V. are not going to let that bother them. We are going to keep right on enjoying ourselves, going to football games, pep rallys and dances. We are going to show the world that nothing can bother us as long as we stick together. Just Taking It Easy . . . We, students at Susquehanna Valley, promise never to let too much work interfere with our social lives. We promise to always stop, look and listen to what goes on around us. And if we happen to get a moment free from our social lives, we might find room to get some school work done. Well, Monday morning has rolled around again and another week of school is ahead of us. Students are in their home- rooms now, some yawning and some talking. This is the time for finishing up homework that did not get done the night before or for worrying about that speech you have to make in English. For some, this is a time for a quick snack and the day has only just begun. Most students look forward to this time of the day because it offers a relief from the school work. It is a time to relax with friends and enjoy the school lunch and know that for at least the next 45 minutes you are free to just sit and rest. It is also a time to catch up on the latest gossip. Who is going out with whom? How I spent my weekend. Still others use this time to do homework. This accounts for some messy homework papers. The time everyone has been waiting for At 3:24, every student's eyes are glued to the clock, waiting for it to strike 3:25. Some students are involved in sports, others in clubs. Some are working in the library, guidance office, or the typing room. Finally, the clock strikes 3 25 and there is a mad dash to the door. There are some students, however, who enjoy after- school activities. Some are in driver's education, while others are practicing football. This is a time for friends to get together and do something exciting, even if it is just going over to another's house and listening to records. Some students like to get their homework done early so that they can go out later, and still others have jobs. But time rolls by so swiftly and soon the buses are coming to pick you up and it all starts over again the next morning. ■ BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) BOCES offers many courses which include cosmetology, computer programming, plumbing and heating. There is also a program that provides job placement a,.er you finish at BOCES. There is a different atmosphere at BOCES than at most public schools. For example, chances are that the students are doing what they want to do and what they are planning to do for a career. BOCES gives our students at S.V. a chance to meet students from different schools. It seems that almost everyone who attends BOCES thinks highly of the program. 5ERJI0RS Graduat i r JG Tune HIS F Seniors, this is our final year in high school. By this time we’ve become more diversified in our actions, each of us doing what we as individuals feel is right. No longer do we follow each other We can’t because soon we must lead The best way to kill time is to work it to death. Being a junior is hard work, but having fun relieves some of the pressure. 70 The junior class is full of wild and crazy people . . . But when asked what comic strip would best describe the characteristics of our class, we came up with some modest results . , . Denis the Mennace took the lead closely followed by Beatle Baily Doonesbury Cheech Chong and Animal House 71 72 73 74 The Sophomore Class of 81 doesn’t want to be thought of as merely another drop in the population of today’s world. We want to make a contribution to our world to aid others like ourselves in our future. As time goes by life gets more complicated, more confusing, with added rules and regulations.
