DEDICATION Dr. Jane Fox Barlow Celebrates Her 30th Year at SO For the past thirty years Dr. Jane Fox Bar- low has served as a professor of classical lan- guages at Susquehanna University. Before she came to Susquehanna in 1954, she earned her B.A. degree at Smith College and her A.M. and Ph.D. degrees at the John Hopkins University. Besides teaching various courses in Greek, Latin, classical literature, and ancient history, Dr. Barlow has served on several University committees. Moreover, she is a member of several professional organizations, including The American Philological Association, The American Classical League, The Classical As- sociation of the Atlantic States, and The American Association of University Profes- sors. In May of 1956, Dr. Barlow published an extract from her doctoral dissertation which was entitled Metrical Word-types in the Latin Hexameter in the Susquehanna Universi- ty Studies. Convinced that the value of a liberal, hu- manistic education is not diminished by either the passing of time or changes in technology, Dr. Barlow has consistently urged students to enter fields of study which interest them, not areas which at the time appear to be the most lucrative or popular. This perspective on edu- cation is an important asset in her capacity as adviser to many of the University ' s Evening School students. In recognition of her many academic ac- complishments and steadfast devotion to Sus- quehanna University and its students, we are proud to dedicate this 1984 edition of the Lanthorn to Dr. Jane Fox Barlow, the Univer- sity ' s longest-serving faculty member. 13
