Dedication During his twenty-four years of dedicated service, Dr. Wilhelm Reun- ing has always shown great concern for the students of Susquehanna Uni- versity. Dr. Reuning came to Susque- hanna in 1959 as Dean, and in 1971 was advanced to Vice President for Academic Affairs. In 1977 he resigned his administrative duties in order to devote more time and energy to teach- ing and advising students. He has also developed a program in international education which involves overseas in- ternships. Dr. Reuning is a native of Mainz, Germany; he came to the United States in 1937 with his father. During World War II, he served in the United States Fifth Army. He later obtained a bachelor and master of science, and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsyl- vania. During the spring of the 1967-68 academic year, Dr. Reuning took a sa- batical leave to study in Europe. Dur- ing this time he researched unpub- lished diplomatic correspondence at the Staatsarchiv in Vienna, Austria, and the Italian Foreign office in Rome on relations between Austria and Ita- ly under the Triple Alliance 1882- 1915. He is a specialist in Modern Eu- ropean History. Dr. Reuning is presently a member of the American Historial Associ- ation, Society for French Historical Studies, and the Conference Group of Central European Histories. He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, Pi Gam- ma Mu, Kappa Phi Kappa honor so- cieties. He is also active in the Luth- eran Theological Seminary at Gettys- burg and Sharon Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove. The Lanthorn staff is proud to pre- sent the 1982 Lanthorn to Dr. Wil- helm Reuning in recognition of his many accomplishments and his true devotion to Susquehanna University and the students.
