November 5, 1980 To me, the Class of 1981 has been special. You and I both began at Susque- hanna in the Autumn of 1977. Even as I have come to love this school and its students, faculty, and staff — all who make it such a special place — I am confident that you hold it with a similar affection. You have good reason, then, to use this Lanthorn as a documentary of the countless memories which now comprise your educational legacy. At such a time, we are like the Roman god Janus who had two faces, one looking to the past and the other directed to the future. From the past you should draw a sense of well-earned achievement. You are healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, and more prepared to be of service to others. Through the act of learning, you have become members of that creative minority which shapes and serves the best interests of our society.
