Our President Gustave W. Weber, Th.D., D.D. To the Members of the Senior Class: A college education is one of the greatest possessions anyone can have. Only one out of fourteen people over twenty years of age in this country has a college degree. With graduation from Susque- hanna you become members of a very select group. You are receiving your degrees when significant world history is in the making. This is not only one of the most challenging and dangerous times for free peoples but also one of the most in- teresting and exciting times known to mankind. You live in a period when rapid advancements of knowledge are altering nearly every aspect of our way of life. Tomorrow ' s world will be vastly different from that we know today. This is truly the age of progress, characterized by miraculous inventions. It is also a period which is characterized by a conflict of ideas between those who advocate freedom and human dignity, and those who advocate domination of ideas and control of the lives of others. Because of your education you are well equipped to accept the challenges of our times and to do your part in strengthening America as a symbol of freedom for men everywhere and as a leader among nations of the world. In the continuing search for truth, then, I would summon you to the challenge of the whole self. For the fabric of life is woven in the living of it, and what you will at- tain of wisdom will ultimately be distilled out of your total experience, out of your behavior as well as your knowing, and out of your most persistent yearnings. We shall watch you fondly as you leave these pleasant ways and move into the arenas of struggle, knowing you are girded for battle with the whole armor of truth. Gustave W. Weber, President IS
