Dean of the University Dr. Russell Galt As dean of the University, Dr. Russell Gait has the overwhelming position of maintaining the proper esprit de corps between the students and faculty, the students and president. This task demands someone of versatile talents who is able to moderate both social and academic questions, routine and unique. In preparation for his duties as dean, Dr. Gait has completed a varied course of studies. In 1919 he received his A.B. degree from Muskingum College. The following yea] he earned his M.A. degree from Columbia University. During that year Dr. Gait traveled to Cairo, Egvpt, where he became dean of the American University and also studied at the School of Oriental Studies. He received his Ph.D. degree from Columbia University in 1936. In addition to his numerous obligations as dean of the university, Dr. Gait also applies his talent to the area of lecturing in the classroom as well as to the various organi- zations on campus. The stream of students who seek him out do so for different purposes, but they all go to Dean Gait knowing that here is a man upon whom thev may rely with complete confidence. ADMINISTRATION Dean of Women Miss Ruth A. Meister The office of our dean of women, Miss Ruth A. Meister, is one of the busiest points on campus. Under her watch- ful eve the Women ' s Student Council, Women ' s Judiciary Committee, National Panhellenic Council and the general welfare of all women at Susquehanna University are cared for methodically. Miss Meister received her A.B. degree from Marietta College in 1936 and the next year she was the recipient of the M.A. degree from Ohio State University. She has done subsequent graduate work at many places. Among these may be listed Paris, Cincinnati and New York. Miss Meister is also an assistant professor of French to add to her already imposing number of functions on cam- pus. Her vast knowledge in the field of etiquette and manners has made her an authority on the subject here at Susquehanna. For this reason she is often called in as a consultant for our more important social affairs. She is the very epitome of efficiency. Our dean of women shows meticulous organization in all of her efforts. If there is a job to be done, we can all be certain that she can get it done.
