G. NORMAN GELATT MRS. CATHERINE SKELLY Qechccztton Thanks are justly due for things got without purchase. -- Ovid The Class of Nineteen Hundred Fifty-Seven is proud to dedicate this yearbook to the three faculty members who are its sponsorsg Mrs. Mary Keyes, Mrs. Catherine Skelly, and Mr. Norman Gelatt. Mrs. Keyes has acted as yearbook advisor since it began as 115 Qak Leaf. When we consolidated and named our book The Trident, Mrs . Skelly became our co-sponsor. Now that we have eight dis- tricts in our consolidation, we have renamed our book The Nucleus and Mr. Gelatt is a welcome addition to our advisory staff. Each one of our advisors has given freely of time, energy, and advicc to help make The Nucleus a publication of which we can be proud, and so to these three teachers we dedicate this book with these words, Gratitude is the memory of the heart. The time has passed so swiftly and now we have reached our goal, graduation . Before we reached our final destination, we had four important stops . At Station '54, we boarded the train with fifty-one passengers . It was the roughest part of our trip, but it holds many happy memories . Continuing on our journey, we pulled into Station '55 and now we had only fifty passengers . It was at this time we chose our course for the remainder of the trip. Here at Station '55 were many parties and our delightful spaghetti dinner. Next stopl Station '56, Oh, lookl This was one of the best sta- tions--we added new passengers from Oakland. Now we had sixty-one passengers . We entered our new building, ordered our class rings, spon- sored our junior Prom, Moonlight and Roses , and many other dances. This concluded one of the happiest years of our lives. Now in such a seemingly short time we've arrived at Station '57. Again we added another car to our long train to accommodate those pas- sengers from Thompson. What a group of passengers, seventy-two in all after adding a few and losing some! We held our Thanksgiving Frolic and the Snowflake Swirl. We had some very active passengers . Many participated in the following sports: baseball, basketball, volleyball, and track. Several were officers in F .H.A. , F .F .A. , and other clubs. A large number took part in chorus , band, cheerleading, and a few were sent to County Festival, district band and chorus, and state chorus. After collecting ads, we began work on our yearbook, The Nucleus . We received our class pins, chose our class colors of black and aqua, and held a contest to rename our yearbook . Altogether it has been a wonderful year. OAKLAND As we started on our journey through high school, we climbed aboard the train with eighteen passengers. The most trying part of our high school years came first--initiation by the Seniors! But after this event was over, we felt part of O.H .S. Everyone looked forward to the weekly club meetings and assemblies . Also, we had a school paper published by the clubs. It contained an editorial page, poems, jokes, and scandals about our classmates. I When we entered Station '55, we added a passenger. At this station we met many of our future friends and classmates, as we joined with S.H.S. in many activities and sports, although we had a good baseball team of our own. At the end of school, we always had an annual picnic either at Pages' Pond or Foxes' Lake where we spent some of the happiest hours of our trip. All Aboard, the conductor exclaimed as we began our journey to Station '56, joining the S.H.S. train. At last we bid adieu to the pleasant memories of O.H .S. and began the trip toward our final destination. THOMPSON As the T.S.A. passengers arrived at Depot '54, there began many wonderful events . After a thorough initiation, we sponsored the Valentine Dance and held a roller skating party. Soon we stopped at Depot '55, We shall never forget the activities and excitement of that year which were climaxed by parties and dances . We've reached Depot '56! Now we're halfway through our trip. Two passengers left us, choosing another route. Although we were a small group, we continued on, eagerly anticipating the events to comewhich consisted of a roller skating party, ,an excursion trip to the Ice Follies and other good times . All out! That's right! We are going to switch tracks--the T.S.A. passengers coupled on to the S.C.H.S. train. As we began the last part of our journey, little did we know of the good times to come and of the new friendships that would la st a lifetime. This station holds the best and the most wonderful memories of our entire trip. Now as we look back upon our high school days, the time seems to have gone so quickly, and there are so many wonderful memories . To us, it seems like the end of a perfect day. How- ever, it is not the sunset, but the dawn of a new and equally perfect day.
