The students of today are preparing themselves for the work their minds and hands must do tomorrow. Our schools permit each student to pursue his education, an important factor in shaping his career and assisting him in making a living. Secondly, they aim to encourage activities which develop sportsmanship and character. The success or failure of Democracy depends on how well all people can live and work together. This lesson in co- operating with others for the good of all is well- learned in the closely knit world of the junior and Senior High Schools. In order that the youth of the Northeastern Susquehanna County School Area might be provided with better educational opportunities, the members of five Boards of Education penned their names to a blueprint of a new school system. We shall remember that the first Monday of july, 1952, marks the birthday of the joint agreement for the Boroughs of Lanesboro, Oakland and Susquehanna, and the Townships of Oakland and Harmony. As a result of this joint agreement, a new and improved building for the training of junior and Senior high school students will arise on the upper levels of Susquehanna in the Borough of Lanesboro. Again, we say, on leaving, we are proud to salute the members of thejoint Board by dedicating this annual to them. In 1949, we entered eighth grade with ZZ members. We elected Naomi Medlar, Presidentg Donald Williams, Vice- Presidentg Dolores Demer, Secretaryg and Gerald Parks, Treasurer. These same officers have served us faithfully for the last five years. That and the tests which enabled us to go into high school are our two memories. During our Freshman year our number was reduced to 18. The only thought and it is not a happy one, is that of the hazing we endured at the hands of the upper classmen. We tried to be good sports, and then came our chance--we were Soph- omores. We inflicted equal punishment on the next class. That year we were no longer Clean Up Committee after parties and we really embarked on our high school career. When we counted noses in our junior year, we were 15 in number, now we really were upper classmen. We went to Rocky Glen and had a grand time, even allowed some Sophomores to share the fun. Now, even with all our homework, we found time to entertain the Seniors. Then in September, 1953, we, ourselves, were Seniors. Now we look back instead of ahead! However, we have taken full advantage of our exalted state, and have thoroughly enjoyed our classes Qthose we can't skipj, the yearbook, the parties, the games, and we are now awaiting graduation. --Peg Cowperthwait --Naomi Medlar Susquehanna Class History It is with skepticism and awe that we the Senior Class of 1954 look back with thoughtful wonder at the last four exciting years at good old Suski High. As Freshmen we felt pretty nice to be included in high school--even if we were the lowest class. We didn't exactly rock the world in our Freshmen year, but it turned out to be a pretty wonderful year. Our junior year was nine months full of dances, laughter, and popcorn. We really made a profit on the sale of popcorn, and as far as our dances went, we didn't realize we had a Milton Berle, Dean Martin, or jerry Lewis in our class. Our most outstanding feat as juniors was our junior Prom, the theme of which was A French Bal1room, and all our classmates pitched in. Seniors at last! As we look back with mixed emotions, we feel that perhaps we have not done all that we could have done in the last four years. But, these are only fond memories now. We look forward to graduation with great hope for the future, as the doors of Suski High gently close behind us. --jane Hanrahan Susquehanna Class Will ,I, Gail Aldrich, will my Shorthand notebook to Shirley Steigert, and hope that she will be able to read it.
