In order to help new students, the board sponsors sock hops, and plans assemblies for both boys and girls. New students are given special assemblies to help them adjust to Dorsey life. Fighting back to get on the victory trail the Dons traveled to L.A. to upset them 6 - 0. Showing a lot of fight in that game were Dale Mickelson, Joe Lucostic, Nate Leanse and Warren Appley. Still steamed up, the Don eleven went on to conquer Hollywood 25 - 6 with terrific line plays by Nate Fearance, Jerry John- son, Bill Hudelson, Briton Tresville and Dick Holiday and fine defensive work of Jerry Lowdermilk and Ronnie O'Donnell. Then came the tide as the Venice Gondoliers overwhelmed the defenseless Dons 40 - 6 to hand us our second defeat. Trying hard to keep us in the game at all times were Ken Karopian and Norm Fawcett. With hopes of gaining o berth in the Milk Bowl the Dontown Varsity threw a 12 - O defeat on PLEY w ARREN AP .v the helpless Fairfax Colonials. Standouts in the game were Ken Sheets, Bob Martinson, and Joe Gill. With a slim chance of our going to the Milk Bowl the iniury-riddled varsity met Hamilton, who stopped us 15 -6. Standing out in the finale of the season were Dan Telec, Ed Mizrahi, Jim Meadors, Bill Lacheman and Hand Fusco. At the end of the season Joe Lucostic was honored by winning a berth on the All- Western League team. Nate Leanse and Warren Appley were also honored by places on the Second Team All-Western League, Joe Lucostic won further recognition by being chosen on the Second Team All-City. All these boys have gained valuable experience. This experience was made possible by two of the best coaches in the Western League, Mr. Bill Lauerman and Mr. Bud Brubaker. 1: . fmt. The game was a stalemate throughout until the third quarter when Nate Leanse fumbled the ball into the waiting arms of a warrior who put the ball in the end zone. The defensive teams for both teams played a hard fought game, only to have the Dons land on the short end of the score. Playing hard on defense were Bernhard Williams and Allen Shaw. The Dorsey Bees started out the season looking great by downing the Warriors of University 12 - 0. The team was sparked by the fine running of Gene DeLoux and Charlie Carr. Excellent blocking was shown by Joe Borgess, Harold Murdock and John Hogan, but in the next game the spirit was hit hard by a strong L.A. Eleven who upset the midgets 'I3 - 0. The Dorsey lightweights came back with Leon Murray playing a fine game both on offense and defense. The next game brought the Og' Bee's their third straight loss of the season, by losing to Venice in a very close game which ended with the Dons on the bottom of a T2 - 6 score. But the Dons' spirit was not to be denied and the midgets ended their '51 season by downing the Colonials of Fairfax and the Yankees of Hamilton with scores of 28-13 and T9-7 respectively. Not only losing the game the Bees lost the services of Gene In the league opener the Don Midget sparked by the running of Gene DeLoux and the passing of Chuck Carr proved too much for-the boys from Uni Hi as the Dons outplayed the Um midget by the tune of 12 - O. Utilizing breaks, the Movie Town Bees thumped the Don Midgets in a closely contested game. Aiding the Don cause was Charlie Carr's 70 yard punt return for a T.D. The team was paced by Jim Lockner, who took an eighth in City and first in the league meet. The team took first in the league meet, and finished first in Western League standings. Also figuring in Dorsey's victories were Don Brinson, Coleman Epstein and Ed Shinn. The Junior Varsity took third in the league meet with Hubert Bordenave taking second place and Malcolm Smith taking seventh. Other top J. V. runners were Jack Papazian, Richard Dickman, and Willard Zeigner. The Tenth grade Team was the league champion. Winning all dual meets and taking second in the league meet, the midget team was paced by Jim Edwards who took fourth in the league meet. Backing him up were Odell Lomax, Roy Anderson, and Bob Brice. In the first round the Dons came up with only two wins and an almost upset over Venice 50-51. In the second round of play they came close to upsetting the League champs, Los Angeles, 45-52, but in the next game we ran all over Hollywood to upset them 7'I-55. ln the final game of the season we again came close to knocking over Hamilton. This year's team was a real fighting one, it showed a lot of spirit from the begin- ning of the season until the end. The Dontown five was paced by Conrad Burke, George Anderson, Nolan Johnson, Clarence Webb, Bill Consolo, Ray Lesonsky, Bob Lee and Julius Lacey.
