BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY September ll marks the 50th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway. a modem wildr.-mess mud covering 470 miles across the crust of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Parkway stretches thmugh Virginia into North Carolina. :Incl ends :Lt :hc fem nf the Great Srtmky Mountains. The idea for the P:trlcway was implemented by Hamid lakes. Secretary ol' the Interior. Enter, disputes with the Cherokee Nation Caused the original route to be moved to the northwest edge of Cherokee and enrleti at the Fnor ofthe Smokies.
