1 TfA . -i t. Education is the best process for changing the structure of a society, regardless of type. It is, by necessity, a moving phenomenon. It can- not stand still because of new developments that change the prospect of the future from one minute to the next. There is a call for equality, justice, truth, and other abstract ideas that can have actuality only in application. I • $ 00 ' 5%(p r m ' ■• N. ' •• -.! Amidst the turmoil, the quiet hush, the thirst for knowledge, the flood of friendship, the autumn showers that brighten the horizon, our campus, though physically small, still engulfs students with ideas that are as big as the universe. 1 1. IWMPM - ' V . The climb . . . alone . . . together. Steps are synonomous with life. Some are long and straight; others are curved and complicated. It is the goal of education to straighten the curves and yield new paths to follow. Change has been from minute to hour to day to year. The student who keeps in mind that 1967-68 was a year of unending change, and that 1968-69 will be another, then the alteration will have been real and good, not a repetition with little variations that can be lost all too easily. If he has been here at Surry Community College, then he knows what the year has been, and he will not have to think too long before recalling days of toil mingled with pleasure. 10 ■■r | Faces are mirrored emotions - signs of understanding, aversion, fear — employing the physical use of a smile or a frown, and translating these symbols into emotional reality based on the sum of our experiences and inter- actions with the perceptual world. 11 Life at college is happy, serious, sometimes lonely. During loneliness we grope for understanding, for some- one who will share and be- lieve, for someone with whom to view tomorrow or merely discuss yesterday. We strive to be apart from the main- stream, yet a part of an intimate relationship. 12 The everchanging activities involved in student life give mobility to the face of the campus — a student- centered world which lasts a short span of time but forever colors the future and remains a bright memory. 14 The 1968 Surry Community Dobson, North Volume One 16 TROTTER College Carolina Contents: Administration and Faculty 18 Campus Life ' 66- ! 67 32 Campus Life ' 67- ' 68 42 Organizations 64 Freshmen 78 Sophomores 96 Advertisements 118 17 $ ' :%.. v - - - £ f 13 $ $ $ ADMINISTRATION and FACULTY 19 V Sf : • -■: ■■-. ■: ' - - RS In Memoriam ■x David Locke Webb rsfcfi? Burrus, and David Locke Webb. They were chosen to guide into fruition a dream — the founding of our college. In the begining, it was their vision, their resourcefulness, their per- sistence, and their unrelenting toil and opti- mism which gave to us, the people of North- west North Carolina and adjoining areas, that which enriches our lives today. With such a heritage as that which these far-sighted men have given to us, Surry Community College strives unceasingly to broaden and enrich the students ' outlook and aspirations so that, upon graduation, they will be able to weather any storm at any level of life. I, John Krepick President President of the College The task of establishing a college is, indeed, no mean feat. With experience and insight, our Mr. Krepick has brought Surry Community College from an 8 ' x1G office to our present campus. President Krepick is always conscious of the needs of the students and faculty. then there are rare moments of silence George E. Stockton Dean of Student Personnel Paul E. Keicher, Chairman Technical and Vocational Division Administration Here at S.C.C. the administrators have been and continue to be as much a part of student acti vity as a part of the administration. Too often the adminis- tration is thought of by the students as a vast-network of hard-to-reach, busy, and aloof figures. Our admin- istrators have a keen desire to respect the individual aptitudes, ambitions, and personalities of the stu- dents and their actions have demonstrated their con- cern for the students ' welfare and happiness. to nights of dancing and fun.
