new school year. When the members of the Yearbook Staff were selecting a cover for the 1964 AQUILA, they expressed a desire to have a school seal as the central design. With the permission and help of Mr. Lanier, they sponsored an art contest and invited all interested students to participate. Many students submitted drawings in competition for the prize—a 1964 yearbook. Joe Beasley and Bobby Simpson were the winners, and ideas from their entries were incorporated into our school seal. In our seal, the Golden Eagle proudly displays a banner bearing the words Veritas, Lux, Libertas —Truth, Light, Liberty. The emblems in the shield above the Eagle—the open book, the torch, and the cap of freedom —are the visible signs of the ideas expressed in the Latin words. The Staff hopes that the school will find other uses for the seal. Cheerleaders sport new uniforms to open the football season. Congratulations to Joe and Bobby! Lydia Atkins tries out the new dictaphone.
