POM PONS Striving For Spirit J The pam pon squad performs one of their competition songs at a game The Surrattsville pam pon squad of 1988- 1984 was made up of 28 girls. This was the l first year that freshmen were permitted to try out for the squad. There was one fresh- man on the squad. The pom pans promoted spirit within the 1 school by marching with the band during football season and performing at pep rallies and many sports events throughout the year, The squad sponsored the Morp Dance, traditionally the first dance of the year, The Surrattsville pom pon squad was also a competing squad. This was the squad's third year of competition. In preparation for their first competition, the girls practiced hard almost every day. They attended the Maryland State Competition at Cale Field House on January 28, 1984. With the help of Mr. Colgan and Mrs. Hilman, the squad placed fourth out of sixteen places. Without the hard worls and total dedication of every girl on the squad, they could not have ac- complished this honor. Overall the squad had a very successful year.
