Principals wmmm v f Mr John Gruber Mr. Gruber was born in the state of New Jersey. In high school, he participated in Varsity football, archery, and track. He was presi- dent of his class in his sophomore and junior year, and vice-president in his senior year. He attended Western Maryland College, participated in sports, and was Sports Editor for his college yearbook. Mr. Gruber ' s interests lie in conservation, mountain climbing, camping, and fishing. Besides being a member of the National Wildlife Federation and the Appalachian Trail Club, he is also P.T.A. president at Tanglewood Elementary School, and has been president of the County Teacher ' s Association.

Our Vice Mrs, Elizabeth Johnson Mrs. Johnson was born in the state of New Jersey. She played varsity athletics and was captain of her high school hockey team when it won the county championship. She attended Temple University where she received her B.S. and M.E.D. After graduating from Temple, she returned to her former high school to begin her teaching career. Her avocations have included directing a drum and bugle corps and a girl ' s camp in the Pocono Mountains, serving as a Lieutenant J.G. in the Navy, and playing on a professional club hockey team in New Jersey. Mrs. Johnson has been Surrattsville ' s administrative assistant for two years and vice- principal for three years. 12

MISS YALE McFADDEN Miss McFadden was born in Lamar, Colorado. She attended a small elementary school named Las Animas until ninth grade. From there she advanced to Louisville High School. After graduation Miss McFadden attended Colorado State College of Ed- ucation where she received a B.A. in English. She then started to teach English in Milliken, Colorado. She then attended the University of Colorado and, afterward, taught and became principal at Erie Ele- mentary School in Colorado. Miss McFadden decided to further her education by attending the University of Maryland and George Washington University. Miss McFadden then came to Surrattsville and has been here for fifteen years. We have all profited by our association with her and hope that future classes will appreciate her help as much as we have. MRS. LILLIAN HOLLAND Mrs. Holland was born in Sheppton, Pennsylvania. She attended Sheppton Elementary there and grad- uated from Sheppton High School. Mrs. Holland attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College where she received her BS degree. She then received her MA attending George Washington University. Mrs. Holland came to Surrattsville in 1949 and has been with us ever since. We want to extend our thanks to Mrs. Holland for her help and guidance in the last three years.
