MRS. THELMA PADGETT, our office secretary, performs her enormous task with a quiet efficiency. She also directs the office practice program in cooperation with the school's com- mercial department. This is her seventh year of service for Surrattsville. 1 MRS. ALMA GARNER maintained the attendance records in the school. Surrattsville had an all-time high of approx- imately 930 students this year. MRS. ELIZABETH JOHNSON served as Student Council ad- visor this year and was responsible for an active student government. Under her direction the Council innovated many recommendations to enhance student welfare. THE OFFICE PRACTICE GIRLS, better known as the weary walkers of long corridors, helped to maintain office business under the direction of Mrs, Padgett. Louise Wignall demon- strates her typing efficiency here to Cleft to rightl Phyllis Muenzer, Betty Kenlon, Mrs. Padgett, Jeanne Tisdale, and Billie Gorman. Page Nine

Page Eight x As., iX1 ' I ,sl PRINCIPAIJS MESSAGE To the Members ofthe Class of 1959: May I add my congratulations to those of others interested in your welfare on the completion ofthe curriculum that each of you pursued? The reaching of any goal previously set is a suitable cause for reasonable pride on the part of anyone who accomplishes the task and for congratulation by his friends. But the goal that you have reached must be only a temporary one, for society will no longer be satisfied with members who are not making progress. Each one of you should have planned or are planning the next step in your life. The next definite goal should be set up and a time schedule arranged within which to reach it, but this specific goal should include a developing philosophy of life, if you and your work are to become meaningful factors in education. We who have been your co-workers during the years you have spent at Surrattsville shall watch your progress with interest, ready to rejoice with you in your successes and sympathize in the failures which we hope may never come. To your parents, the county, state, and nation who have paid for your education and to the school and teachers through which this education has been received, you owe a debt which can be paid only by able and faithful endeavor in your life's work. Sincerely yours JOHN M. PRYDE, Principal
