When the words Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man were written, the author must have been think- ing of just such a person as Miss Yale Mc- Fadden for whom this 1958 yearbook is dedi- cated. XVe are very fortunate at Surrattsville High School to have so dedicated a person to guide and direct our younger generation. In this world of today we need more people like her who are sincerely interested in the welfare of our future citizens. Miss McFadden is a truly dedicated person who gives unselfishly of herself, far beyond the call of duty for our school and the cause of education. Therefore it is entirely fitting that this book be dedicated to her. The following written by Folgerxlggsey expresses how we feel and we quo Nu for our friend and coun- selor,, en. sr THE BEST By FOLGER K1NsEY The best that we have is not what we've got But that which we give away- A gift to make easy another's lot- For it all comes back some day, The love that we showered to left and right, The boost that we gave some heart That wanted the dream and the song and the light As it struggled to get a start. We count our treasures in bank and chest, The things we have saved-they are there, But they do not matter, they're not the best- Our best are the things we share. Our best is the love that we give to those Who hunger and suffer and cry- A song of cheer, a flag or a rose, As the great procession goes by. Oh, we know the things we had were fine, And we gave them away with a will, Well, don't be worried, and don't repine, They are ours, we have them still. For the things we gave away are the things That profit us most in the end- A love and a thought and a cheer that rings Somewhere in the heart of a friend. Our heartfelt thanks are for our friend Miss Yale McFadden. 7
