EXECUTIVE OFFICER A K COMMANDER DANIEL D. EDWARDS Commander Daniel EDWARDS was born in Pontiac, Illinois. Following graduation from Northwestern University in June 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree he was commissioned an Ensign through the NROTC program. After attending Fleet ASW School in Key West, Florida, his initial assignment was ASW Officer onboard USS OZBOURN IDD-8461, and he later fleeted-up as OZBOURN 's Weapons Officer. Following completion of Destroyer School in March 1972 he served as Weapons Officer onboard USS HEPBURN IFF-10551. Next he served as First Lieutenant onboard USS MISPILLION IAO-1051 and was selected to remain onboard in July 1974 when the ship was turned over to the Military Sealift Command as the initial Officer in Charge of the Military Detachment on USNS MISPILLION ITAO-1051. Commander EDWARDS received his Masters in Financial Management graduating from the Naval Postgraduate School with distinction in June 1977. He next served as the Comptroller for the Naval Ordnance Station until September 1980 when he was assigned as First Lieutenant onboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER ICVN-691 until 1 June 1982. He then attended Armed Forces Staff College until January 1983 when he undertook his current assignment as Executive Officer, USS SURIBACHI IAE-211. Commander EDWARDS' personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal lwith Gold Starj, ' M d 1 d Na Achievement Medal Campaign decorations include the Vietnam Navy Commendation e a an vy . Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with two stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Commander EDWARDS is married to the former Susan Marie Weiler. They and their children William and Pamela reside in Virginia Beach, VA. 5
