Superiors reserve basketball squad showed much promise for the future. This team was a young one consisting of freshmen and sophomores. Concentration on fundamentals was Coach Gerald Declcers approach in teaching the rules of the game along with the good sportsmanship which is a necessary corollary to the first. Francis Placke and Gene Schroeder strain as they go up and over. Fourteen Trackmen Leffered Head Track Coach Dale Mooberry lettered fourteen boys. Three seniors, seven juniors and four sopho- mores. The highlight of the track season was the first annual Ed Weir Invitational track meet held on April 15 at the Brodstone Athletic Field. Four boys qualified for the state track meet. They were: Bob Thompson, Francis Placke, Phil Stineman, and Larry McCord. Phil Stineman took first place in the 880-yard run in Class MB competition at the State Meet. His time was 2:03.2 to break the school record of 2:03.7. This time also got him a fifth place in the Gold Medal Competition. On February 9, the club invited all the SHS organization presidents to their weekly dinner meeting. Working together with the Key Klub was the Hi-Y. Kiwanis Organizes Key Klub On September 29, a new organization, Key Klub, was fomied for SHS boys with Supt. Eugene L. Rarick as sponsor. Key Klub, pattemed on the Kiwanis intemational organization, has the following ob- jectives: To develope leadership, better relationships, citizenship, cooperation, and academic life. They felt this more adequately described their pur- pose which is to promote a spirit of co-operation, unity of student body, and enthusiasm in school ac- tivities. Under the leadership of Beth Irvin, presidentg ,ludy Grove, vice-presidentg Kathy Cox, secretaryg and Linda Kottmeyer. treasurer, the group strove to improve their club. With 102 members in the Red Peppers. they made quite a noise to spur the team on to victory. One of their main activities was attending the basketball jamboree in Minden. A local contest in creed and public speaking was held on January 29. In February. they attended the district con- test at Gibbon, and in March the district judg- ing day in Minden. Nebraska. And as is the trend everywhere-the boys 'tlooked dovm their noses at Chemise dresses, and the couples who were going steady were practically inseparable. SHS pupils spend much of their leisure time studying school work. A wide variety of outside jobs are held down by students. Though shori-lived, the fascination for the spinning of the hoops of plastic was intense and widespread. Among the older juveniles other forms of exercise were enjoyed. A volleyball team was formed for the girls, and young ladies from each of the high school classes, besides junior high girls, participated.
