FOREWARD- The first class of the Superior Senior High School gives this book to each succeeding Spartan class. Re- member the hope of your brother warriors, nourish it, and pass it on with your fighting spirit. We're Spartans, all of us, and we're the first Spar- tans this school has ever had. A Spartan is a warrior and it will take the courage of a warrior to live up to the name and symbol of our new school. 2

Circular Plant In March of 1963, preliminary excavating be- gan. On September 16, 1963, the first shovel full of dirt was turned by Mr. George Shaw, retired Superintendent of Schools. An area of thirty-nine and three-tenths acres was purchased for the site of the Superior Senior High School. The total floor area is 231,800 square feet. The architects were Dobberman Helske— Hammel Green Incorporated, Superior. A. Hed- denberg Co., Duluth was the General Contractor. The Plumbing Contractor was A. W. Kuettel Sons, Inc., Duluth. Electrical Construction Co., Duluth, was the Electrical Contractor. The Heating and Ven- tilating Contractor was Tini Plumbing and Heating Co., Virginia, Minnesota. The capacity of the building is 1800. There are sixty-four teaching stations. There are several areas and features which are special. The library has a 25,000 volume shelf capacity and can accom- modate 80 students at tables. The Speech Drama- tics Theatre has a stage with curtains and a 71 seat- ing capacity. In the language laboratory, the teacher desk console is equipped with four tape decks to serve four different groups of students simultaneously. The art department has special facilities consisting of potters wheels, an all pur- pose graphic press, an electric ceramic kiln and craft benches for making jewelry. Special vocational courses are being offered. Partly financed by Federal funds, special equip- ment was provided for terminal education in secre- tarial-stenography and distributive education in the commercial department. The following terminal courses are taught in the Industrial Arts depart- ment: electronics, metal fabrication, machine draw- ing, small engine repair and carpentry, and build- ing trades. Superior Senior High School was one of the 36 pilot schools in Wisconsin in vocational education at the high school level.
