The members of ISC devote a great deal of time, effort and thought to making this body an influential and judicious one, and to make the sororities aware of their responsi- bilities. ISC must establish and enforce various rules concerning rush- ing and hazingg it must supervise Hellenic Sing and other all- campus activities involving the sororities. It also provides a means of communication among the members of the various houses. lt tries to encourage sorority women to think about the purpose of sorority and what it has to offer themselves and fu- ture members. This year ISC and IFC coordinated Hellenic Weekend for all fraternal members plus a concert open to the public. We are hoping that this weekend will become a tradition among the fra- ternal organizations. 105 I nter- Fraternity Council ROW 1: D. Freis, T. Seaman, J. DeMaso, D. Katt. ROW 2: L. Fielding, A. Under the leadership of its advisor Nlr. Earl Pratt, and its President Henry Kirchner, the council directs activities which are supported by three fraternities acting as a unit. These activities include com- munity drives, foreign student program, bloodmobile, leadership conference and scholarship cup competition. The Associated Press Wire Service called Cortland's 8-1 sea- son's record, the best in upstate New York for 1964. Was there a reason for the Red Dragons having such a record? After all, it was only Coach Roger Robinson's second year as head mentor. The reason, according to Robinson, was that the boys played good hard-nosed football. Coach Robinson wants it to be known that a good share of victory came from the students who turned out for the games. A good crowd that cheers their team along helps in the victories every time! Will the Red Dragons have another 8-1 record in 1965. All we can say is that we have the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the fine record until September 1, 1965-opening day for the '65 season. A group of new students trying out for their first inter-colle- giate sport, poses a big problem each fall. Freshman coach Larry lVlartin, however, always produces a team that can be fielded with the best. This past fall, the baby dragons posted a 4-2 record. The first game found the cadets of Manlius invading the baby dragons' den. lt was a bad day for the Cortland yearlings, as lVlanlius went home the victor by a score of 35-6. The next three games Cortland came out on top. The next-to-last game, Cortland travelled to Alfred only to come out on the short end of the stick by a score of 41-36. T. Prof. Holloway is that lucky coach, for his fine work with the 1964 varsity soccer team. The season started out with two wins-Potsdam 9-O and Cornell 7-3. The only loss came in the third game as the red mules lost to the bombers of Ithaca College 2-6. Then it was 8 straight wins. Following the regular season, Holloway received a call from the NCAA, informing him that Cortland was selected to participate in the Regional Play-offs. Then the word came that everybody was waiting for -the Black Knights of West Point would come to Cortland to tangle with the red mules. The game was one that no one will forget for many years. The final score was Cortland 3 Army 3. Any other day it would end as a tie game, but ac- cording to NCAA play-off rules someone had to come out a winner. Army did by one corner kick. Cortland once again captured the State University of New York Athletic Conference with a conference record of 6-O. Don't l look sophisticate The Freshman Class started off their agenda of activities with the usual ice-breaker, a class-spon- sored jam session. The class's planned activities, aside from the re- election of permanent officers, include a spring hay- ride, and a class picnic. This year's class has de- cided to change the annual Frosh Ball, usually held in December, to a date between lntersession and Easter. The purpose of this is to break up the long period of so-called social-stalemate between these two recesses. l l i I l i l l l .l s demon- asm which vidence of ion inthe ss donated hn will bea they have the Soph ooking for- lermined 10 e VivaciouS O UV Mascot 5 D . of Ml' Sol Sophomore Class K. Once again the Sophomore class has demon- strated the outstanding spirit and enthusiasm which has made them famous on campus. The evidence of this spirit will remain long after graduation in the form of the Dragon mascot which the class donated to the college in the hope that the tradition will be a long lasting one at Cortland. ln addition, they have sponsored two iam sessions, a hayride, the Soph Ball and the annual class picnic. The class and the new officers are looking for- ward to the next two years and are determined to keep the spirit alive which has made the Vivacious Class of 1967. 170 L. ft he activities otha 'eaily started things nok back with phd ated and made ni nward in memdnnr ester meant practin nued diligentin thi' fever and irnhnr ss begin plans hr to be a tremendn.. The Jovial Juniors began the activities of the year with a iam session, which really started things rolling. In later years they will look back with pride, knowing that their class formulated and made offi- cial the Memorial Scholarship award in memory of Dick Adams. While the new semester meant practice teaching for many, others continued diligently with their studies on campus. The fever and frolic of spring saw this constructive class begin plans for a huge clam bake, which proved to be a tremendous success. Suddenly, with the year's termination fast ap- proaching, a realization that those four years that once seemed so long were rapidly slipping away. So as they look anxiously toward their final year, they also look back, wistfully and with much pride on this, their Junior year. I uh' I HW! Ms , ju fl .fix- 5 .L Qi. Tom Dalton dunes with Max Lerner Senior Class The class of 1965, since its first eventful, and perhaps awesome year at Cortland, has witnessed many changes and innovations. We have seen the build- ing of new dormatories, a new library, a new Education building and Science building, and the proposed plans which will make Cortland a larger and much better school. We will always remember, however, when thinking back upon our crowded, transforming, and so quickly-fleeting years, the traditional events which re- main as landmarks: Freshman Orienta- tion, the Christmas Concerts, and fes- tivities, Hellenic Sing and, of course, Moving Up Day, when we realized that our college years, although so quickly gone, could never be forgotten. .., - . MHAREK Muon I ULESN mation pun Aw- gbqion n I A Poem For Lester Hurt The sun had no compassion, but warmed the February day, bringing to the hill college where he taught, the dying only of winter: the trees it climbed dripped light, and an icicle fell to numberless melting slivers from the high drains. Even the circle he had walked for more than twelve years was now drying in the spring air, and spring was everywhere: in hills that rolled horizons away, in bells that tolled the last hours time could spare him. There was deception there. He had survived a war. We played cards across a khaki blanket, and counted chips, bet, and weighed the odds against the hands he'd get. It had warmed his quick muscles and bones in a prison camp, and now was home, and now was wine passed in a game of stud, over its olive tones. His bookplate was a monk with glass in hand. He lived this way, a lover of things: Chianti, Faulkner, Kentucky wingings of crows, burstings of spring. Then a damned burst of blood brought his end. III We'll never see the same halls or hear the carillon in the same way. Weill see a man tilting a beret or watchthe ricochet of handballs and think of him, continuing to see his image in the corridors and feel his pleasures as the seasons swing, and hear his loud laugh in ours. The sun came up as he lay dying, suggesting that gentleness survives, and warmth, that memory revives the winter heart. Useless, the poems we bring. The sun performs his hallowing.
