X' pm N X Xf-ft U f - r A ,1 '1TL.cL::..,.nsl+ r 2, It took a lot of guts to become the first male faculty member at an all girls prep school And through the years, it has required a bit of tact, a threatening air, and a great deal of magic to propel scores of reluctant Sunseters through the rigors of the club mosses, balanced equations, and the periodic table It must have been courage, foolishness or a little b1t of both that kept Mr Wood at Sunset during the first years of faculty integration when there was only a solitary men s restroom on campus But it Was the magic-Wood s own personal brand-that kept us in the labs laughing at his corny jokes In deepest respect for his courage, his perseverance, but mostly for his magic we, the class of 1973 dedicate this yearbook to: the Bearded One, our gruff, soft-hearted, class sponsor, coordinator extraordinaire, and TEACHER. A N XXX IW' X 1 E' Dear Sunset, ' It is very hard for me to summarize in a short paragraph all my feelings towards you without sounding phony. I will try to say it anyway and hope you understand. Sunset has been a great year for me and I realize how much I got to love it as a school, really, I am scared to go back to my old school in Chile. I learned so much this one year, as a person and otherwise too. The people that helped me so much are too many to name here, but I especially want to thank the whole senior class and Emily, my sister. They made me feel at home here and viewed me not only as 'ctheir A.F.S. student, but as a person, as Daniela. And that is a lot. It sounds unreal, but I did not have any unhappy experience that I can remember, but it is true. I just want to thank everybody for being what they were and I will always remember you and feel like a part of Sunset. Lots and lots of love, kisses and good luck, Danny Myr It man Aus stud go t liver N was on s my con beai spe I. love Mat 'I betv calr 1 , I ? I z J f f f M5 f I My Summer f'Down Undern It is really difficult to describe such a wonderful summer in a few short paragraphs. It was filled with so many great experiences. I lived on a beef cattle farm in a small town called Casino in New South Wales, Australia with the Collins family-Mum, Kip CDadJ, a farmer and real estate agent, and Jenny, my sister, a student at Casino High School. Robyn Humphreys, a friend of the family lived with us during the week to go to school since she lived on a farm twenty miles out of town. My two older brothers, Robert and John, lived and worked away from home. They all treated and accepted me very warmly as a part of the family. My eleven weeks were filled with so many things. Weekdays were spent at Casino High School where I was in fifth form Cequivalent to Junior yearfb. Classes were fairly regimented and there was great emphasis on sports, rugby, soccer, field hockey, and tennis among the most popular. It took me awhile to get used to my uniform consisting of a blue tunic with black anklets and oxfords but they soon became very comfortable. On weekends my family and I often went on picnics to the beaches or somewhere in the beautiful countryside after sometimes a few hours of separating the cattle in the moming. One week was spent with John in the 'foutbackw where we spent hours chasing emus and kangaroos. It seemed that all the Aussies, not just my family, were so warm, friendly, and relaxed. Of course I fell in love with the accents and the slang. CAfter I could finally understand itb. I got used to hearing '4Gidday Matei' and Hitis beaut or ufair dinkumi' meaning it's true-those are only a few. Thanks to my family, I did get a good view of the Australian way of life. There are many similarities between Australia and the U.S.A., but there are also many differences, mainly in their way of living, their calm, relaxed way of life which hopefully will never change.
