She loved teaching and made us love learning She was understanding. Anything she could do to help, she'd go out of her way to do it. Really nice. She made us feel important- like each person was someone very special. She was the most gentle person l have ever known lVlrs. Dix? I loved her. One cannot find more honest judges of a teacher than the students who have been members of her class. These comments from girls of all age groups show exactly why we pay a special tribute to this warm and dedicated woman who has given so much of herself, for many years, to Sunset Hill. The climate of Sunset Hill during the. 1969-1970 school year may be defined in terms of open minds and open lines of communication. ln such an atmosphere where freedom of expression is encouraged, the School's development also depends upon the individual's sense of her responsibility to the community. This year, with lVliss Hender- son's guidance, a sense of school community emerged. The Class of 1970 hoped that this experience will encourage all members of Sunset Hill to be receptive to nevv ideas, to feel free to experiment and to change, only in an environment of mutual confidence can education truly thrive. lVliss Louise L. l-lenCl9VS0'1 IVlarian Atwood ADMINISTRATICJN W X sv - fss ssssggsizss X X 9 Q X ESR A NW A X In x X X s X X sssxs N ,, M M , iii fd Assistant to the Headmistress Co-Chairman ofthe Upper School Madeleine Hield Administrative Assistant Enrollment 'Zf!'f fm,,Z XNQXNNQQ X f f X Q5 ff Z' f gf W Z 2 W 4 0 f 9 f Z ? i Q f 1 9 fa Q W, - 2' YQ' X9 1 ' Q. iff 722: W gm . , HJ 1 W .A z - I ,kLA, FW ' X-X4 ,af Q .mn Q rbi' 75? for fu xx ,AWD ,kg V f A, ,,,, A 1 f ff 1 X f f A W ff! f fr .mc v f f 76 r YQ , , ' - , ,EXW V, .. Now both have become integral parts of my life and I carry the realization that this has been the most broadening year of my life, close-packed with educational opportunities, travel- ling experiences and, most valuable of all, meaningful human relationships. I applied for A.F.S. committed to its program but largely oblivious of its implications, and only now do I understand that within its ideal lies the only real hope for international understanding. I am glad that Sunset has included the A.F.S. program as part of its progressive attitude towards education, for no quan- tity of lectures or textbooks can duplicate the value of a real exchange of ideas in the form of people, not papers. You and I are members of a world com- munity which cannot afford to perpetuate division through misconceptions and indifference, for unless we learn to share that which is common to us all-our humanity-there will be no co-operation, and no peace. A.F.S. seeks to bridge oceans and languages and cultures, for its message is not sectional. Its message is people. Thank you for allowing me to share your aspirations, your disappointments and your laughter. I shall remember the Ist Grade's charm with particular love, and I daresay even the trauma of teaching the Juniors my version of the VoIkspele will assume the rost glow of nostalgia! I am grateful to you all for expanding my knowledge of Sunset and Kansas City in particular, and of people and the world in general. I wish you joy and Peace, and as is said in Zulu-Shlala Ghashle-go well my friends. Ingrid de Kok Camp Arcadia. August. f F 7-,fa ,,f..s, S as f Q f 'sf 'gf 0 4-Q Af Revels. December.
