- -v Z-':f- I- ----v enior CALM ,J4145LL0rg Of the class of 1961, Sherry Bunting, Gail Mc- Greevy, and Lee Zivell entered Sunset Hill as three year olds. These three little darlings were joined in the next few years by Caroline Bliss, Susan Jarvis, Martha Knight, Susan Maurer and Nicky Price. Together they graduated expertly versed in the arts of hair-pulling, and sash-tearing, all hav- ing experienced many memorable pleasures. In first grade Jean Trusty joined the lusty band. Susan Maurer and Caroline Bliss left for more fertile ground, but their places were soon filled by Amy Buckingham, Lucy Francis, Carol Stotts in the third grade. ln the next few years Linda Bagby, Jody Groves, and Susan Smith joined the illustri- ous class. The Dancing school years were soon upon us, our band was strengthened with the ar- rival of Julia Jenkins, Paulette McKinley, Kay Nichols, and Josie Pickard, and we all participated whole-heartedly in patent leather flats, pony-tails, and braces. Upon our entrance into eighth grade, we were faced with several new problems, namely, Miss Bagby, Miss Bliss Qnot really strangersj, Miss Linsley, Miss McCue, Miss Miller 'EG Miss Torrance. This year proved to be one of trials and tribula- tions. We were greatly enraged at not being al- lowed to attend A.A. dances or to play hockey against our elders by whom we were often scorned. This was a year of plotting and intrigue, we sought a chance often to venture forth on the hallowed senior stairs. Freshman year dawned with the addition of Betsy Eckels and Susan Maurer. Determined to let our elders know who's who, we set out with the intention of carrying off scholastic awards of various and sundry types, and basketball and hockey cups. It is extraordinary how the best laid plans can go astray, for we had the sole honor of winning no honors and a continuous, unvarying column of defeats. Another autumn came and brought with it Sherry Roush and Pam Weber to join us in the Sophomore Slump, a rather infectious disorder, the victim of which is inflicted by a disastrous case of giggles and her every movement seems to have been inspired by St. Vitus. During the latter part of the year Susan Smith left our class for the great open spaces of Shawnee-Mission East. This year ended in a blaze of glory for us, at the A.A. luncheon we received the much coveted Field Day cup and most exciting the Song of the class of 1959 which has since become our Senior Song. Junior year was studded with SAT tests, col- lege guidance, the Jr.-Sr. Prom, and of course, the Stair Ceremony when we entered into the senior element. With a great deal of work and play we had finally arrived, we were seniors. Miho Fujimori came from Japan on the American Field Service Plan and Susan Smith returned to complete the Class of 1961. The senior room was refurbished in a baby-blue hue to become the abode of leisure and sweets. All were set to spend a lovely year living off the fat of the land, but about the time that the iceman cometh, cameth also tidings that we would have to worketh if we expected to go to college. In desperation we vowed to atone for the indolence of the previous years. We wrote furiously on term papers and college applications. By some strange contrivance we managed to muddle through College Boards and get into college. Thus with graduation, we, the Class of 1961, terminate our career at Sunset Hill. We thank Mrs. Green and the Faculty for their patience in pulling us through. To the Class of 1962 we wish the best of luck and success. -16... .....Q...-.....1-.. ..... ...QU- CA Jar 7 Q Lit Soc Sec Ho Cu Ch Ad Dr. Up Sui Lal Int Go
