Sm In mid-January of this year one of the greatest fellows known to the Sunset campus passed from this world. Everyone who knew Manuel Sira, whether they had classes with him, played sports with him, or just knew him well enough to say Hello knew that happiness and laughter surrounded him and the people he was with. He was a member of the first football and baseball teams at Sunset. He was considered a very fine athlete. He contributed to the Student Body with his talents, and to the students and teachers with his humorous outlook on life. To everyone who reads this, consider that Manuel Sira was your friend, because he considered you his friend, and to all his friends he will never be forgotten. l X,Q Fcwewed Serum .... The purpose of Block S is to organize members who have lettered in athletics and regulate the rules governing the wearing of block sweaters. Helping in student body activities, the sponsoring of dances and booths are just part ot the many activities that these boys participate in. A boy who has earned his block in athletics automatically is a member ot Block S. lt he is caught with too many stripes on his sweater he can have his block taken away. There are other rules which when broken will cause a boy to lose his block and most boys have worked too hard to lose this very special privilege and are careful about the rules set up by the club. The rules were made by the boys and for the boys of Sunset's Block S. ATHLETICS Flynn, Jim HB, JR. Pclatri, Ty E, Jr. 'Flag' Sunsets Wes Reed being stopped for a short gain against Fremont. MVP Sunsets first night foot- ball game was something new but sad. The Falcons defense was not very ade- quate for Terry McCarthy and his Farmer friends. Tibbets, Dave HB, SR, Santos, Don QB, JR. Sherbourne, Jim E, SR. After 4 consecutive league losses our Falcon varsity fi- nally broke into the win col- umn with a decisive 18-O trouncing of Mt. Eden. We built up a T2-O half-time lead on the strength of Touchdown runs by Elias Moron and Wes Reed. In the second half the Mon- archs were stingier but Elias came through with another touchdown. Despite the fact that our season's record was three wins and five losses, there are many bright spots for the future. Both John Taylor and Steve Ponsi made the second team H.A.L. and will be back next year. John was also used as a fullback against San Mateo and looked very promising. We had two H.A.L. honorable mention players who will be back in Don Cortez and Dennis Crosby. Quarterback Paul McGill who filled in respec- tively for the iniured Larry Evans will be back. Linemen like Ruben Nieto, Ty Polastri, Loren Fisher, Steve Daughdrill, Tim Gerkins, Steve Rochelman, and Ken Weis will be returning to help produce an H.A.L, champion for Sunset. The back- field may be our strongest point with experienced players like Jim Flynn, Reggie Hughey, Wes Reed, Rich Kerby, Don Santos, and Dennis Athanacio all coming back. The biggest asset to our future champs is the return of starting coaches Herb Baxter and Don Curly. 19-6 was the score Sun- set used to down San Loren- zo to finish league play with a 2 won 4 loss record that was good enough for a fifth place finish. Reggie Hughey paced the Falcon's attack with 93 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Elias Moran scored another touchdown to show why he got the Most Improved Player Award.
