Low Ratings The IV Soccer team faced and ended the season with a 0-12 record having the same problems as the Varsity. A loss of players to Mexico and a lack of concern of the performance of the team .caused the players to score poorly. But Coach Canavese can see a few quality players and a few rapidly improving ones and feels that there is hope for the next season. The GAA Soccer Team had a successful season with a record of 1-1-10, Coach Flores felt that there was a problem in getting enough players, show up for Soccer next year, the season will be great. 1. IV Soccer: Top, jose Martinez, Alex Garcia, Emilio Beas, Tony Gil, David Hernendez, Angel Alvarez, jae-soo Chung, Coach Dick Canavese, Bottom, jesse Mez, Nate Branch, lose Rozas, Frank Wong, luvenal Gutierrez. 2. juve- nal Gutierrez tries to gain control of the ball as an opponent attempts to inter- cept it. 3. Frank Wong maneuvers the ball away from two Saratoga players. 4. Bruce Coover prepares to dribble the ball down the field to the goal net. 5. Paivi Napola sets up to make aigoal. 6. Diana Renteria tries to out run an oppo- nent to win control of the ball. 7. Diana Renteria tries with an opponent to gain possession of the ball. 8. Slyvia Atondo and Paula Angeles all with the hope of intercepting the ball. 9. Brenda Guerra bumps heads with an opponent while vieing for the ball. 10. Missing Act The Varsity Soccer team experi- enced a disappointing season, fin- ishing with a record of 1-13, Coach Laurel felt that this was caused by a lack of enthusiasm and a loss of players when many returned to their homeland, Mex- ico. Though many discouraging problems were encountered by the team, the problem of trans- portation was overcome and the team ended with an exciting near victory over Homestead. If the many energetic young players on the Varsity team continue to play Soccer, the following season is hopeful. 1. Lazaro Castro skillfully dribbles the ball down the field as an opposing player attempts to intercept it. 2. Manuel Solis jumps to successfully block a goal shot. 3. Martin Najera gracefully boots the ball, sending it down the field. 4. Tony Quinate races to reach the ball be- fore an opposing player. 5. Varsity Soc- cer: Asst.
