Richards Championship Basketball Team Sunnyvale High Schools C team continued traditional winning ways with their second consecutive SCVAL championship, their first undefeated season, and extended their winning streak to 30 wins. At the beginning of the season things looked dark for the Jets, with only one man left from last year's squad. As the season progressed, however, the Jets molded into a team of which any school would be proud. The closest any team could get to the Jets was 35 to 34 by Menlo Atherton. Len Nix lead in scoring with a lO.4 point per game average. John Ulate was second with a 8.3 average. Offensively the Jets scored an average of 49.5 per game, while holding their oppo- nents to 26.8 points per game. The only loss under coach Tony Nunes came in the first game of the l956 season, lt was at the hands of Menlo Atherton, who beat them 45 to 38. Since then the Jets have won 30 straight, including two wins over that same Menlo Atherton team. This year the team seems to be even stronger than last year's squad, as was evident by the scores of the Ayer and Fremont games. The Jets won 52-l3 over Ayer and 68-3l over the crosstown rivals, the Fremont Indians. Nix, up from last year's D squad, and Ulate, a returnee from Nunes' championship team in '56, stand sixth and ninth in league scoring respectively. Along with Nix and Ulate in the first unit, there was John Richards, Lenny Zucchi, Clark Rosa, Stan Guit- terez, Bill Meyers, and Rich Crawford. Jim Collins was the team manager. 104
