The monthly meetings were planned with this aim in view. Some of the highlights were the Fall Festival on November 4th, Open House at the November meeting, the Hobby Show in January, and the annual Ath- letic Banquets. The social hour is a popular part of P.T.A. meetings. During the school year the bands played at football and basketball games, took part in the Christmas Convo, entertained at the April meeting of the Sunnyside P.T.A., and also gave sev eral spring concerts . They participated in the state contest at Indianapolis in April. Also selected groups attended the state solo and ensemble contest at Frankfort on February 4, at which they rated high in sev eral divisions . Of the 48 members, only 13 were in the organization last year. As usual, it has taken an active pa rt in school affairs. The orchestra played at the Sunnyside Christmas convo, at the Classroom Teachers' meet- ing in March, entertained the P.T.A. at their April meeting, and the D.A.R. on February 7th, One v iol in quartet, two quintets, and a sextet entered the state solo and ensemble contest at Frankfort on February 4th and. brought home several first, and second ratings. It meets every Thursday after sc hool in the gymnasium and any eighth grade girl is eligible to join. During Nationa1Book Week the club held a Book Fair, to which the faculty was invited the first day and the students the next. Alsoa Book Quiz was broadcast over the inter-com system so that all students might participate, and a prize was given to the winning home room. This year it is di- vided into eight groups, four seventh grade and four eighth grade. Each group made a scrapbook about life in Lafayette to send to a foreign country. The groups combined to give a World Friendship tea for their mothers on November 30 at the Y.W.C.A. At Christmas time the girls filled baskets of food for needy families in this community. They learn about such things as jobs, health, democracy, games, and s oc ial events. Their club platform is Christian thought, Christian action, and Christian leader ship. Troop 14, led by Mrs. Hogan, completed all requirements for their first clas s rank, gave a Mothers' Day Tea in February, at which they held their Court Awards, and in the spring held a cook out . Troop 72, with Mrs. Kramer as leader, received their home nurs- ing badge and worked on their Camp Craft Badge. Their activities in- cluded dancing lessons at the Y.W.C.A. and a tour through a National Homes model house . Troop 52 was led by Mrs. M c D owell . Its purpose is to giv e each chairman an opportunity to express his room's opinion on school activities. EIGHTH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAM The eighth grade Stars, coached by Mr. Harry Slack, climaxed a successful season by win- ning both the West Central Juni or Conference League and Tourney. Their record of eighteen games won and only three lost is the second best ever established by an eighth grade Lafayette team. David McKenzie was top scorer with 167 points, Ed. Lemond next with 135.
