But we shall always treasure fond mem- ories ofthe wonderful start we were given in the first grade. lt is in deep and abiding appreciation for her patience and her kind and nn- derstanding heart, that we, the senior class, affectionately dedicate THE ECHO of 1960 to Mrs. Laura Keeton Chamberlain. Princzjialfs Message I want to congratulate you members of the Senior Class ofSun- nyside-McKenney High School for having reached this point in your education. I hope we can awarda diploma to each of you at the end of the school year. You are the first class tohave had the opportunity to participate in the new twelve year program at Sunnyside-McKenney High School. I have seen in you many of the results of this extra year. You are more mature and have assumed more responsibility in the various school activities. I feel that you have fully justified this new pro- gram. Many responsibilities, social, political, and religious, are go- ing to rest on the shoulders of high school and college graduates ih these rapidly changing times. Much of what the future holds, human- ly speaking, is largely in your hands. You must stand on your own and make your own contribution to society. I trust that each of you will be an influence for good for your family, your country, and your God. We are going to miss you here at Sunnyside-McKenney High School, and our interests and prayers will go with you. M. B. Heizer, Principal I! s','v fl W -v .xx M. B. Given under hand and seal on this the 6th day of I une by the Senior Class of Sunnyside- McKenney High School. Witnesses: Marshall B. Heizer Bill Red Goodwin Prophecy The White House had never been in such an uproarg the president was holding a reunion of his high school class. From all walks of life and all sections of the country came the members of the Class of '60. Here I was getting everything in order for the reunion of my class. I had ordered the caviar, champagne and the glasses under which to cook the pheasants. The feeding of the 30 odd guests was a minor matter compared with the finding of the addresses. The most remote and hardest to locate was Junior Bishop who had been in Alaska as the first successful tobacco farmer there. Also in Alaska was Cool Carol Byrd, honeymooning with her 5th husband, having worn out two, divorced one and her first, a prominent doctor, having died as the result of try- ing to keep up with Carol's whirlwind life. She now has entered the service of a TV station in Alaska doing ads for the Brandon-Hilton in Anchorage, Alaska. The Brandon- Hilton, as you may have guessed, is partly owned by Barrett Brandon, who also found a fortune in the frozen North. Back on the Washington scene it was easy to locate Mary Lou Lingerfelt and Char- lotte Elder, since they had opened a dress shop on Penn. Ave. where the First Lady buys most of her clothes. Their husbands own a bread factory in Washington also. Ann Fry was easy to locate because she had married and now she and her children pose for the national advertisements for the McKenny Shirt Factory owned and operated by the enterprizing Jack CBooJ Satterwhite. After careful figuring Boo bought the old button factory and made great changes. He now manufactures all parts of the shirt - from raising the cotton to making the packing boxes - in a way that only Boo could figure out. Belle Mayes had taken a course in secretarial work after graduation and now works in the office of JM Cwhich stands for Jimmie Maytonj, a concern making racers. One of the regular customers of JM is Roland Maitland who holds the new World's record for speed on the Darvills Race Track owned and operated by James Lee Lewis. James Lee seems to have made a great deal of money with his race track in this speed con- scious Dinwiddie County. When Mrs. J. K. Doyle retired a few years ago, all her students got together and gave her a trip, not to Europe, but to the Pillsbury mills and factories where she com- pared notes and suggested changes to Betty Crocker. Naturally with a vacancy on the faculty, someone had to fill it. After a lonely life as a home demonstration agent, a confirmed old maid, Linda Meredith, came to fill the opening. One of the few who has had a normal life is Charlotte Riddle who married a few hours after graduation. She now resides happily with her husband in Petersburg. Speak- ing of Petersburg, Gene Townsend is now the owner of the only goat ranch in Virginia. His home Winntown is famous and open to tourists during the annual Virginia Garden Week. Suddenly the blare of sirens screams in the White House driveway and I'm sure it must be the Governor of Virginia, His Excellency W. Jordan Curtin. As his limousine comes around the south portico, I see that a State trooper with a lot of brass on has just hopped out. It is none other than Douglas King, the chief of police in Virginia. Just then President Barnet tapped me on the shoulder and said, Jack, since you :- 'e the butler, I want you to take the south portico and I'll give Edna, since she is the chief secretary to Mrs. Barner, the north entrance. Oh! Be sure no one gets tipsy, because it would ruin my political career if it got out that I held a rowdy party: but with the crowd that's arriving I'm afraid some may spend the night. s iw In 1 rl Q ' u xi hx H yds 'Y W Q I Ng' ,R 5' V: i sr may , W 9 3 1'2 54 6' f XLL L D pb ffiwifg. 2 liAa ml u7-. , . 3.
