The knot-hole gang, Kirsten shows championship form at table tennis, Camel fighting in the pool Sam and Denise dance to the music of the Unite. After graduation the seniors were loaded on busses and went to Yakima and the Y, M, C, A, where they enjoyed an evening of dancing, basketball, swimming, bingo, and playing games. To keep them going they were able to consume all the food and pop they wanted. At 2:15 A.M, everyone boarded the busses for the trip back to school for their final goodbyes and breakfast. Trish challenges at billiards, For twelve years we have been pointed toward high school graduation. This night climaxed the entire twelve years. During our night of nights we gained a new appreciation of the efforts of our parents to provide an education for us and then climax it with our night of food and fun. This group under Carolyn Garrison's able lead- ership, sponsored Christmas Rose, a very suc- cessful style and talent show in December. The members also sold refreshments at debate meets and the tournament for junior high students, as well as holding a rummage sale to raise ftmds for the Speech Club Scholarship, awarded to the out- standing member, Lou Bryant. At the annual awards banquet in May these other awards were made: Best First Year Debater, Desi Chavezg Most Improved Debater, Ricky Glenn, Outstanding Sophomore Debater, Ann Mayes, Speech Club Ser- vice Award, Carolyn Garrison. Activities began with a bonfire at the High School . A serpentine was led downtown where a rally was held. The serpentine then made its way back to the blazing bonfire, where students cheered on their team . Homecoming evening began with a parade consisting of homeroom floats, Miss Sunnyside and roy- alty, homecoming queen and princesses, and rally squad. The parade made its way to Lincoln School through downtown Stmnyside . A hard fought game against the Selah Vikings , ended in Sunny- side's second loss of the season. The varsity football team had a fair season despite only six returning lettermen, This year the Grizzlies had an inexper- ienced team, rebuilding a new offensive and defensive unit, Coach Potter alternated Bob Powers and Karst Brandsma at quarterback. The Grizzlies had a 4-6 season beating Grand- view, Wapato, Carroll, and Prosser, which was their best game of the season coming from behind to beat Prosser 17- 13. Senior veterans leaving the squad are Rob Stokes , Mark Wyatt, Tom Johnston, Bob Smith, Brent Pistorese, Cory Berg, Robin Roberts, Sam Morrow, and Steve Schut, Award winners include Dave Hole, Academic award, Robin Roberts , Inspirational award, Steve Schut, Honorary Captain, Pete Marquez, Jim Mallory trophy, and Brent Pistorese all around player. CROSS-COUNTRY Sunnyside runners Rob Blume and Rolando Loera race past a Wapato runner. Under the superb coaching abilities of Coach Jacobson, this year's cross -country team had a sensat- ional season winning all their league meets and taking first in Sub-District and District. At District Sunnyside came in first with Joe Acosta running the course in 12:21 , right behind him was Arthur Ramairez placing second with a time of 12:22, and Bill Van Oostrum with a time of 12:26 to take fifth place. Sunnyside then went on to a twelfth place at state behind the fine abilities of their runners, The highlight of this year's cross -country team was beating Ellensburg, Sunnyside's closest competitor by 55 points . Bill Jennings' basketball team had a some- what deceiving season this year winning a few close ones and losing a few close ones. The Grizzlies started out the season by giving Kennewick a bad scare, losing by two points in the closing seconds, 56-54. Sunnyside lost another close one a week later with Kennewick, 50-47. Sunnyside's first win of the season was over West Valley, 52-49. Due to numer- ous injuries and long term illness Sunnyside lost a string of games, but not without put- ting up a good fight. The highlights of this year's season was two wins over Carroll 64-55 and 46-43, the win over Prosser 71-65, who got second in District, and the win over Ellensburg 60-55, who got third in District. So overall, Coach Jennings had a good sea- son With seniors Marv McClure, Brent Pistorese, and Gordy Allan, and juniors Rick Hall, Art Ledesma, Bob Powers, Matt Schilperoort, Karst Brandslna, and Pete Marquez, also sophomore Rudy Ramos. Rick Hall received the Captains Award and Brent Pistorese the Inspirational Award. With all the returning players Coach Jennings is look- ing forward to an outstanding ball club next year. Corey Berg came out of the District match in fourth place while Kit Shaw and Willie Guy got first place. Kit Shaw received the Captains Award and the Most Valuable Wrestler Award, while Willie Guy received the In- spirational Award . Rolando Loera was the Most Improved Wrestler , Mark Flodin had the most takedown totaling 15 while Sam Morrow pinned the opponents through the season com- ing up with 15, Among the wrestlers who earned more than 30 points were Mark Flodin, Willie Guy, Kit Shaw, Sam Morrow, Mike Lyons, Greg Grimes, and Rolando Loera, Sunnyside started out the season by beating Carroll, Selah, Pasco, and West Valley, They lost their first match against Kennewick 29-20, then continued on to beat Ephrata, Rich- land, and Eisenhower. They finished the season with 14 wins and only 2 losses while the Junior Varsity did a great job too with a season record of 12 wins and 4 losses. Seniors who wrestled and will be leaving this year are Corey Berg, Alan Klein, Sam Morrow, Steve Schut, Kit Shaw, and Bob Smith. Others on the varsity included the juniors: Joe Acosta, Rick Allan, Albert Garcia, Jim Goatly, Greg Grimes, Dave Hickenbottem, Rolando Loera, and Arthur Ramirez , sophomores: Mark Flodin, Robert Gillihan, Willie Guy, Dewayne Harper and Mike Lyons.
