On top of this, many instructors were in charge of special activities in which both student and advisor participation was together. Our teachers were not only happy in their work and happy with each other, but also did a tremendous job of keeping the student body HAPPY TOGETHER, Advisor if MR , LINEHAN Principal 1 My ,, gp , 'SKY gQlf'j,g ,J if W1 'fra-5 HHRRY BENSON ass! sun fun vucnnnm in nun scuoox anvs nuenancr mem Panama suasmumc nonseunuuc me any MR, BLU1v11f: MR. This can be initiated upon any of the three levels. The student body policy can be very respon- sive to the will of the majority of the student body, On Monday morning each homeroom has a meeting. Any business is brought up by the homeroom's vice-president at student council on Wednesday noon. Matters include homeroom and executive council business. Voting on policy matters is delay- ed until discussion and voting of the homerooms, The student council chairman is the council's representative on the executive cotuicil, This year's Student Council Chairman is Rob Baurle. Other officers include: David Newhouse, assistant council chairmang Patty McQueston, secretaryg and Patti Neill, parliamentarian. The Executive Council consists of the seven elected officers of the student body, the presidents of the three classes, the yell king or queen, the newspaper editor, the annual editor, and the high school principal, This year the Executive Council passed music in the halls, girls wearing pants, and beards for boys, They also supervised the league standing board and a Sunnyside Grizzlies banner for the gym. Best All Around Nancy Potter Wayne Jernberg For thirteen years the schools have been your second home. You have planned, worked and hoped for a successful completion of its program and through graduation to make another significant step into the adult world. Suddenly you don a cap and gown. You march to Pomp and Circumstancef' hear a vague number of speeches and congratulations . You surrender the cap and gown, board a bus for a night of fun, you eat breakfast as a last act as a student in public school and it is over. You leave , tired, happy, and a little sad all mixed together. You have been happy together as the class of 1970. Yet endings and new beginnings are always that way. Congratulations Class of 1970 and God Speed you on your way. Most Athletic Mary Egan, Rick Orth, Dick Paulson Next Years Grads I 2 5 s r 'Q MQW? LEFT TO RIGHT: Cheryl Johnston, Rocky Bronkhorst, Trish Erskine, and Irene Jones. Class Advisors: Mr Calbraith and Miss Murray. This year's junior class re- ceived a government subsidy to send Richard Hiler and Bill Ooms to Utah State for the National Science Foundation. Also a point to notice is that through the scholarship drive, and by selling popcorn at the home S,H,S. games, the class earned S743 . 00 . By their loud cheering and vigorous rooting at pep assem- blies, the class was able to place second in a close race between themselves and the seniors for the pep jug. The juniors also had a number of very helpful participants in all of the sports, and many will be back next year to hopefully guide their school to another successful year, 1 - an 9 sm? Culle Grizzly Football 1969 At the beginning of the year George Potter's Grizzlies appeared to have the experience and determination to capture another Mid-Valley League crown, The Grizzlies started the season with an impressive Victory over a tough Eisenhower football team, Two weeks later, with great second half come-from-behind effort, Sunnyside defeated power- ful Prosser 27-17, extending their record to 3-0, The 1969 Home- coming game found the Grizzlies with a 4-0 record and the No, 1 rating in the state, Despite dominating the game Sunnyside found itself on the short end of a 15-14 score, Plagued with injuries from this point on the Grizzlies showed their true ability only one more time, this being a 20-6 victory over a strong Grandview club, In all it was a disappointing season for George Potter's club, The four games the Grizzlies lost were by a combined total of 23 points. The Grizzlies used a deliberate, pattern type offense with a very tena- cious defense, Sunnysidels five starters molded into a very fine unit, and with help from the reserves were never out of any game. The Grizzlies showed their great potential in pre-season with two near upsets of a very strong Richland club, Down at Richland the Grizzlies forced the Bombers into over- time and the following Tuesday night the Grizzlies held control of the game all the Way losing only on two free throws in the final two seconds. Both of these games were lost by a total of three points, Entering into League play the Grizzlies were 0-4, but exploded for a 22-8 first quarter lead against Wapato and easily coasted in to the victory. The next weekend the Grizzlies dumped a previously undefeated Carroll team, and went on to win 6 and lose only 2 in the first half of League play, Stricken with the flu bug, the Grizzlies split the second half of League play winning 4 and losing 4, The Grizzlies were at their peak for the District Tourna- ment and played 30 minutes of excellent basketball before a tough Ephrata press brought the Grizzly season to an end Next year looks like a building year for Sunnyside due to the fact that all five starters and the two top reserves will graduate this year. Grizzlies League Champs Mr, Senn announces his retirement, The Sunnyside Grizzlies Wrestling Team had another tremendous season, They finished undefeated in league matches for the fifth straight year, losing only to Big Eight League schools who eventually finished in the top 5 in the state, The Grizzlies easily rolled over all their league opponents, finishing the season with a 54-O decision over Selah. Out of the 12 men Sunnyside sent to Sub-District 9 went on to gain berths at the District tournament, giving the Sub-District crown to the Sunnyside team. At District the Grizzlies placed fifth, sending three men to the State tournament. At the annual Awards Banquet the inspirational award went to Domingo Montelongo, the captain's award to Junior Rodriguez, and the most improved wrestler award went to Sam Morrow, But, overshadowing the awards was Mr. Clem Senn's announcement of retirement from his post as head wrestling coach, During Mr, Senn's tenure as head coach, Sunnyside has compiled a fantastic record, includ- ing never having lost a Mid-Valley League match. His successor will be this year's assistant coach Mr. Terry Syvertson, to whom we all wish the best of luck. Luck may not be necessary since this year's J,V, Team com- piled a fine 12-3 record. J .V. Advert1s1ng Society is based on a happy re- lationship between merchant and consumer. As consumers, the students of 1969-'70 were depend- ent upon local businessmen not only for clothes, but for food, School supplies, and in many cases, friendship, Sunnyside's merchants showed their interest in S, H, S, and its associated student body by be- coming involved in ouryoung generation, Their involvement showed in an eagerness to stock the merchandise we wanted. It was also an act of involvement on the part of store owners to buy ads in our MIRROR 1970, making it possible to present, in black and white, a reflection of one year in which we truly were HAPPY TOGETHER, ,k MEMORIES My Favorites Class of --H--F----A-,------------ Class Motto ---- Q School Colors --------,---------- 'l Favorite Teacher Favorite Boy H--g-g------.--'-.------.-- Favorite Girl Prom E-1 Awards and Offices held Activities w-w----g- 'Q- -,---,s---- --su - l ---------------M - l Z!f 4.7 ff Complzmenfs YEAGER STUDIOS A ' f' ?' , 1 E. 7,95 ' l 17 if XI I Q f -59 of C4-55 SKILES' JEWELERS Phone 837-4843 425 S. 6th SUNNYSIDE BEAUTY COLLEGE 418 S. 6th Sunnyside 837-4040 nn X .
