X. 1 ' s o v SENIOR HISTORY We the graduating class of 1947 entered Sunman High School in the fall of 1943 As we now look back to September l945,we find 22 students enroll ed, they were Jewell Alley Viola Batta, Irvin Cash, Norma Jean Corso Edmund lgkstein, Walter Greene Jr , Raleigh Gutapfel Jr , Florence Hill Lillian Hill, Kenneth Huber, Joseph Lambert, Carol Jean Lattire, Zelda Miller Ruby Rehberger, Roy Rennemeier, Romilda Riehle, Berdiana Rodmaker, Elmer Schaefer, Ervin Spreckelson, John Woliung, Robert Woliuns, and Clarence Zimmer Our class officers for the two semesters were Zelda Miller, President, Jewell Alley, Vice president, and Elmer Schaefer, Secretary and Treasurer, our class sponsor was Mr linneman Two class parties were held this first year Dur ing the year John Woliung, Hoy Rennemeier, and Berdiana Rodmaker withdrew leaving us with nineteen members at the close of our freshman year At the beginning of our Sophomore year we found that Viola Batta, Edmund Eckstein, Joseph Lambert, and Raleigh Gutapfel Jr were missing from our roll Kenneth Huber and Walter Greene withdrew later lr the year Our class officers for our sophomore year were Jewell Alley President, Zelda Miller, Vice president, and Clarence Zimmer, Secretary and Treasurer and our class spon or was lr Kohlerman Two class parties were held again during the year which were enjoyed by all those attending students We found that Lillian Hill had withdrawn and a former student of Sunman,Leola Mae Fink entered our class In February, Elmer Schaefer became ill for a period of time and withdrew Our class officers were Clarence Zimmer, President, Zelda Miller, Vice president, and Irvin Cash, Secretary and Treasurer Mr Minneman was our class sponsor On March 7, 1946 the class presented 'Meet ly Wives ' The Junior Senior Reception was held on April 27, 1946 at the School Gym On September 3, 1046 twelve members enrolled One new member, Dorthy Bruns, a former student of Batesville, was added to our list, but Jean Corson failed to enroll The class elected Jewell Alley, President, Carol Jean Lattire, Vice president and Irvin Cash, Secretary and Treasurer Our class sponsor again being lr linneman The class choose a white gardenla for the class flower with melon and white being the class colors A short but meaning full motto was choosen, 'The Guide Of Life Is Common Sense ' 'Let'er Go Gallagher' 'Lst'er Go Gallagher', a true picture of the American Scene,1ncludes the interesting life of its mountain folk, for the Hillbilly has become an American tradition It's a simple, three act comedy that is as truly American as the Ozark Mountains There is Ma Snood, who works like a dog for a shiftless brood, Gallagher Snood, who will always be found layln' around, Daisy Snood, who writes prlze winning Jingles, and Clem Snood, who is wired for sound Polly Calhoun is as sweet a girl as ever wore shoes Abner Calhoun's riches make him sing the blues, Elmer Purvey has a hanker n' to marry, and can't understand why Daisy wants to tarry Wanda Wirt has a mind slightly blotto, and Beulah Buggins hails from 'Joe'a Gravy Grotto So Gallagher gets his girl and a good job together with the surprise of his life when he learns of the intricate design of Polly's Little Plan X X X 'XXXXXX XX XXXX 3 x s x Q -I s x N Q x s I s Q Q Q Q N Q x x H Characters Gallagher Snood Daisy Snood Clem Snood Ma Snood Polly Calhoun Abner Calhoun Beulah Bugglns Wanda Wirt Elmer Purvey Clarence Zimmer Jean Lattire Irvin Cash Florence Hill Dorothy Bruns Jewell Alley Zelda Miller Ruby Rehberger Ervin Spreckelson Prompters Romilda Rlehle Leola las Fink Stage Manager Robert 'ollung 4
