A - A RETIZDSDECTA A A ' . .., 'Q' . If .. ki 5 1 fn' as-,,Jti' ,nl COLLEGE BASEBALL Our 1929 College Baseball team made a record for theniselves uf whieh they are justly proud. The entii'e season was played with an unbleniished record as far as victories and defeats ao. until the final same when we losti In Wesson by a large score. This was the State Chainpionsliip aanie and we felt the deft-:it very keenly. Couch and Crook tllled the eatulier's position, while Barkley and Pratt vapably took Care of the pitching staff of the teani. Pratt, while not pitching, played third base position On short we had Gray, on sei-ontl Hush, while Ballard was ever ready to put 'f-ni out on hrstf' Watson, Fleiuinrg and Aust were in the outfield and when an opponent was lueky enough to get the ball out of the inefield, we were confident that the ball would fall into the waiting glove of one of our alert outiielders. To the opposing teain our batters were a terror. Rarely did one of our players tail to get at least one hit in eat-h eanie. Those who had the highest batting average were Pratt, Aust, Ballard, Gray and Rush, while the other nienibers of the teain were not far behind with their batting average. We have high hopes for the success of our team this spring even though we did lose several valuable players. At least the teain will not be outefought, because now we can hear the swish of the bat and the sharp sound of the ball as it sails out over the iield. With the Sunflower Spirit and a hard working team, under the excellent coaching of our inost excellent Coat-h Joe Martin we are harboring the fond di'eain of state championship. Those who expect to enter the r-ontust for plat-es on the teani are: Crook, Buckley, Watson, Aust. Rush, Haniniaek, Alias, Pratt, H., Slaughter, Middleton, and Stokley. 101
